Wearin' of the - ummm- Blue [??]

Dear Diary:

When I read that the Colour Challenge for this week was St. Patrick's Blue, I thought Luna was playing with our minds.  But she wasn't!

Historians say the original colour for St. Patrick was blue, not green and can be see on ancient Irish flags.  During the Irish Rebellion 1798, the clover became a symbl of nationalism so the "wearing of the green" became a regular practice.  Eventually the blue was fazed out.
So in the spirit of the Irish celebration, I've combined the original St. Patrick's blue with a Chinese inspired outfit.  Now that's International friendship for ya!

Good Night for now.

Having Fun in the Winter

Dear Diary:

Winter can be long and taxing, even in our second world so the other day I flew out to Winter Festival at Aero Pines Park.  Walking around the area is very picturesque - snowy trees, wildlife, pine cabins.  There are 12 regions where you can participate in outdoor activities.  I tried the usual winter sports - cross country skiing, skating, snowmobiling.  I also went horse back riding.  The Festival also offers flying a helicopter which was really fun but riding a ice unicorn was the best.  The highlight of the whole day  was drinking the hot chocolate.
There are lots of opportunities for picture taking too.

Check out this winter fun before summer takes over.

Building Snowmen

Dear Diary:

When I was a kid, I just loved going out on a wintery day when the snow was really sticky and build snowmen with my friends.  But lately, the weather in my part of the world has been very mild, a little snow, but definitely mild.  One day it snowed so all of a sudden I had mushy / a-little-on-the-sticky-side snow.  I definitely got the urge to build.  I went outside to roll snow to make something creative but noticed my neighbours shoveling or sweeping so embarassment kept me from rolling the balls for the snowmen.  All of a sudden I thought....wait...I can go to my other world...so I did.
I called up my friend, Chloe who is always game for doing something fun and we spent a great time outside on a picture perfect day.

Good Night for now.

Sometimes I Deliver Presents

Dear Diary:

I don't normally need to deliver a lot of presents in my first world.  I visit friends on Christmas Eve and take their gifts over with me but most of my presents for family I leave under my tree.  Then everyone comes on Christmas Day for pressies and turkey.  But the few I do deliver provides a lot of fun.
Ah yes.  I've gone off the road a few times; had car trouble once; flat tire at least once and of course had many anxiety attacks along the way.  This year will be different.  We don't have a lot of snow so I don't think I'll run into the usual problems.  Wow...do you think things could run that smoothly?  Let's hope so.

Good Night for now.

The "No Smoking" Sign is up

Dear Diary:
When I was young, I thought that being a stewardess would be an awesome job.  You can fly anywhere in the world; have a job that's essentially different every day; and don't spend a lot of money on clothes since you have a uniform.  That's why when ABC network announced the new series, "Pan Am", my interest peaked.  The story line follows stewardesses in the 1960's, paying great detail to getting the society of the period perfectly correct.  However, the one thing they will not show is the actors with lit cigarettes in their hands.
Over the past few years, cigarette smoking has become taboo on major networks as it's perceived as being "impressionable" to some viewers.  I'll still be looking forward to seeing how the series comes out.

Good Night for now.

Some things just HAVE to be done

Dear Diary:

I love all my worlds.  I work in each of them; I visit interesting places in both; and, I maintain a wonderful group of friends.  But I think we all love this world because it's glamourous.  We can dress in the fanciest clothes, have the neatest coiffure, apply  flawless makeup and drape ourselves in various jewels.

However, sometimes real life seeps into this other world and tells us to ...ummm..."GET A LIFE!!"  When that happens, we get slapped with a wash cloth of reality and know we have to do in our second world, what we do in our perfect world.  So...

I guess I'm not movie star material after all.

Good Night for now.

Stressed? Trying Gardening

Dear Diary:

One thing I enjoy doing in any world is gardening.  I can get out and dig in the earth, plant some new flowers and the rest of the world seems to fade.  So when the temperature went up...I went out!

I have a flower bed just outside my house.  The Hydrangea is up, tulips are blooming, hosta is poking out of the earth and the Bleeding Heart is just getting leaves.  The fern seems to be nice and green.  Of course the weeds are doing best of all.
The weeding is always the part I hate the most but I know that it has to be done.
There's something so rewarding about sitting back and looking at what your hard work has produced [and it gives you time to have a quick rest].

These garden plants from Herb's Garden are wonderful because they "grow" with the season.  Each one is changeable to the varying seasons from spring right through to winter.  Right now they're just starting out but in another month they'll be flowering.

It was a great gardening day!

Good Night for now.

The Elegance of Ecru

Dear Diary:

Ecru is one of those colours that I don't have many words for because I like it so much.  Everytime I wear an ecru dress I feel classy, cultured and clever!  It lends itself to be "girly".  And sometimes I like to dress that way.  But when I looked in my closet, I didn't have a pretty dress to wear sooooo...
Fortunately Mimikri was having a great sale and I hadn't been shopping in a long time.  I picked up this delicate looking dress that I love.  It whispers "Elegance".  When I stepped outside the house, my neighbour asked me where I bought it so I knew it was a hit.  While I was shopping there, I bought the gloves to go with it.  Of course what's a new outfit without shoes?  I think the flower on the shoes from G Field really adds to the look.  Hmmm....then I thought a spectacular hat would be the crowning finish.  Mauve Binder from MB was nice enough to rez a variety of hats for me to look at and I thought this one just went so well with the whole outfit.

It was a satisfying shopping trip for sure.

Good Night for now.

Getting through the Winter

Dear Diary:

Winter can seem very long and drawn-out.  When the snow first flies, it's pretty and I really enjoy it but by February my patience with the white stuff has gone.  By then, I'm through my thrill of shovelling and I've lost the excitement of watching the snow swirl around outside.  To pass the time, I try to do as many winter sports as I can.  My fav is down-hill skiing.
I found this great place to go skiing.  I took the lift up to the lodge and started out from there.  It's very picturesque with a slalom run to try.  However, I decided to try another run.
"Hmmm...I wonder if I can do this," I think [looking at the sign with trepidation]

Another activity that I love to do is snow shoeing.
When the weather is a little milder, I like to put on my snow shoes to forge through the forest area with deep snow.  This is REALLY getting back to nature!
When the trek is over, it's nice to sit by an open fire, getting all toasty and warm.

Outside activities really help to fill in those long winter days.

Good Night for now.

I'm not into fur....but....

Dear Diary:

I don't own any "furry" items.  I'm not sure it's a moral issue with me.  I'm just not into it.  BUT....this morning the thermometer read -33C.

"Yeah", I thought.  "Hmmm.  And will the car start?  What if the gas line freezes and I have to walk?"

So on that note, I dug out the furs.

The practical me is on the right.  Great coat with fur trim and hood to keep my ears from freezing; woolen sweater with wool pants; and knee high leather, lined lace up boots.  Of course you need heavy gauge knitted mitts to keep your fingers from freezing.  All good for keeping you warm and safe from the extreme cold and biting wind that we seem to be having right now.

However, my alter ego likes to look cool while trying to maintain warmth. The fur head band keeps the ears warm - at least; the short leather jacket has fur trim - at least; the leather pants and unlined leather boots...ehhhhh.  Gloves do not keep fingers from freezing but they do look very sleek.  I mean...like...you have to keep up a great appearance.  Don't you?

Even though it was an extremely cold, windy day, I managed to get outside.  Ok...so it was only to run to the car, drive to work and then run into the building but still...come on....give me some slack!  I'm a northerner!  I would never get outside if I waited for warm January weather.  It just won't happen.

Good Night for now.

I Need to get the Shopping Finished

Dear Diary:

The days just seem to be flying by.  After I sat by the fire the other night, I decided to persevere and get the rest of the presents bought and wrapped.  And...oh yes...I absolutely HAD to pick up some things for me for the holiday season.

The snow let up a bit so I went out to my favourite shopping district in Liberty.  I shop at a lot of the stores there [Baiastice, Modern Gypsy, Morantique] so being all central, I could just walk from store to store and "ka-ching" with the plastic.

I parked the car and was off and running into the closest place.  The cold and snow didn't even bother me.  It's the excitement of the buy that gets the adrenalin running!
Obviously the snow plough had been over the roads a few times and had managed to push drifts on the sidewalk.  But did that stop me?  Oh no!!!  I just climbed right over.
I must admit I'm glad I braved the weather.  I picked up things to finish - hmmmm - almost finish - my Christmas gift buying. And things to supplement my Christmas wardrobe.

Good Night for now.

P.S.  I had not participated in Luna Jubilee's 52 weeks of colour since November, thinking I would get Christmas finished but surprise surprise!  This week I managed to fit it in with my coat and shopping bag.  A bonus week for sure.  {By the way, it's yellow!}
