Geek? Nerd? Or Dork?

Dear Diary:

Another thought provoking, very subjective Q&A for Berry's Monday Meme

1. What do you consider yourself to be? Geek? Nerd? Dork? None of the above? All of the above?  I always considered myself to be part Geek and part Dork and to this day think of myself as such.  As a kid, I had straight hair that my Mom had cut in a very dorky way; had "railway tracks" (braces) until I was 16; and wore truly ugly glasses (I'm cockeyed!)  I was more comfortable in a science lab than at a party. [ok, I've changed!] I've never lost my desire to learn as much as I can and sometimes those courses have nothing to do with my job.  I've got quirky tastes in my hobbies [am taking a class in Latin right now] but that's what keeps me interested.  Fortunately I have great friends who put up with me. [They shake their heads often!]

2. What was the first computer you ever owned?  Think it was a Commodore 64.  I didn't own it as such, but it was for the whole family to use.  It was really old and often didn't work very well.  Finally my Dad bought a newer one but I only used it to play a space game.

3. When and how did you first get on the internet?  Not sure exactly when it was but all my friends were talking about it so I needed to find out about it too.  I think it was probably for email.

4. Which geek fandom do you subscribe to?  Since I'm a Second Lifer, I guess that is part of my geekedness.  I do watch Dr Who whenever I get a chance.  Never got into Harry Potter.

5. Star Trek or Star Wars?  I probably lean to either but deep down I'm more of a Trekkie.

6. How Geeky Are You?   The test was fun to do.  I am 59% Geek so I guess that makes me 41% Dork!  I passed the link to several of my friends who think they're "normal".  We'll see what happens.

Good Night for now.

Shoetopia Shopping Spree

Dear Diary:

Finally, my friend Chloe and I managed to get into the very busy Shoetopia event.  The venue has been packed and we never seem to be able to enter the sim or even move once we got there.  We usually shop together and always have a lot of fun doing it.  When I say we shop, I mean we SHOP!  So we decided to split up and meet after for coffee.  We both bought lots of shoes and, the funny thing is we both bought some of the same shoes.

Just before we left, I decided to try the Gacha machines and was lucky enough to get this rare Rack prop pose.  It was perfect for Chloe and I.  It gave us a chance to wear some of our new shoes.

One more week for Shoetopia!  The crowds seem to have thinned a bit so it's a good chance to look at all the new items - everything from stilettos to boots.

Good Night for now.

Chloe is wearing:

I'm wearing:

An Introspection of My Life

Dear Diary:

Berry's Monday Meme is really hard to do this week.  It's difficult to analyze how you personally feel.

1. Regardless of your current number, how old do you actually feel?  Wow!  It seems simple but this is a difficult question for me.  Age has never meant much - chronological, biological or psychological - they all seem to be different at various times of life.  But I suppose I would have to say I feel like I'm in my 20's.

2. Which is worse, failing or never trying? Definitely never trying is worse.  You might fail at the trying, but at least you know you gave it a shot.

3. If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently? I would never live my life differently even if I had all the time in the world.  My trials, my failures, my successes have made me the person I am and I wouldn't change that.

4. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?  I think I worry more about "doing things right".  In my work, I'm a perfectionist and it's hard to change that line of thinking.  But, on the other hand, I do try and do the right things when it comes to family and friends.

5. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton? Couldn't I be a joyful genius?  My brain is important to me so "simpleton" wouldn't be me.

6. Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?  Yes.  I can honestly say, and with a great amount of humility, say that I make a very good friend.  My friends even tell me that.  My friends, in all of my lives, mean a great deal to me and I don't treat their trust in me lightly.  I cherish all of them, and value what they bring to the friendship.

7. Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?  I can't remember the last time I was truly upset.  Things don't really bother me but if I do get upset, the feeling is gone within a few hours.  I tend not to hang on to things like that.
8. At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?  This is going to sound really sappy.  Christmas is MY time.  I enjoy it from the beginning of December right til Epiphany.  I love the snowy weather, the colourful decorations, the real tree all decorated with ornaments that have meaning for me, the food and the company.  Everything about it makes me as excited as when I was a kid.
9. If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job?  Absolutely not!  I love my job and no amount of money would convince me to quit.  The practical side of me realizes that, if I won the money, I would be able to take time off for lots of vacations.
10. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today? I couldn't name one person but I would try to gather my family and friends together and have one-heck-of-a-blow-out party.
11. What do you feel is the difference between being alive and truly living? Being alive is the process of "existing". Truly living is "existing" on steroids!
12. If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?  I've made lots of mistakes in my lifetime.  I like to think most were unintentional.  Have I learned from that? I suppose so but I know I'll make more errors in my remaining years, but that's part of life.  I'm not afraid.
13. What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?    Well, for a start, I would tell people I'm enjoying a Second Life!  None of my family or friends know I'm in this world.  Hmmm...what would they say?
14. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?  Live life to the fullest, with no regrets.

OK...now I'm totally exhausted.

Good Night for now.

The Best and The Worst of It All

Dear Diary:

It's a bitter cold windy day here in the North.  I want to climb under the duvet, watch television and do nothing.  But of course, that can't be.  This morning I got up, started the car and drove to work with the heater on full blast.  Now that I'm home, I'm comfortable in my jammies...and warmer [*note* ear muffs, scarf and gloves]... answering Berry's Monday Meme.

1. Best thing about Second Life:  The wonderful people I've met.  I have made friendships that expand beyond Second Life.
Worst thing about Second Life:  The idiots that invade my personal space; grief me and ruin my sim.

2. Best thing in your inventory:  Clothes, shoes, hair, furniture, houses.  Oops!  Was I only supposed to name one thing?
Worst thing in your inventory:  Hmmm...I deleted a lot of the real tacky things I had.  I guess now it's the AK-47 Super push gun that knocks the intruder 2 sims away.  I hate to admit it, but I've used it too.

3. Best earliest SL memory:  Having parties on the top deck of the first house I rented.  It was so much fun dancing, talking and just acting crazy.
Worst earliest SL memory: Meeting a wonderful kind woman who became my friend, who went shopping and dancing with me and then who died.  At that point I realized RL does impact on SL and vice versa.

4. Best thing you learned because of SL:    Learning how to take photos - posing, focusing, shadows.  I'm still learning every time I take a picture but I enjoy it.
Worst thing you learned because of SL: Agree with Berry.  Some people will hide behind their SL persona and feel they can be as rude or as cruel as they want to be.  Makes me think they may be like this in RL too.

5. Best thing about blogging: Being able to express myself.  I always wanted to be a journalist, write a book so this is certainly the best thing I've done.  I've never blogged before but I found out I love it!
Worst thing about blogging:  I haven't found the worst thing yet.  I just love doing it.  I dislike hearing that some bloggers ask for a lot of freebies.  Then when they don't get the items, they bad mouth the store / designer.  Very rude!

6. Best thing to have with french toast: A Canadian morning
Worst thing to have with french toast:  A Canadian morning when you have to go out to scrape the windshield; try to open the frozen doors; turn on the heater; and wait until you can drive without feeling the tires are like rocks.  Forget it....by then your French Toast is cold.

Good Night for now.

My Celebrity Look Alike.

Dear Diary:

The Monday Meme certainly kept me on the computer for HOURS last night.  I took a selfie that I thought was nice looking and submitted it.

Try as I might [and I did try multiple times], it wouldn't accept it.

Hmmm...maybe it was the hair.  So back to my other world....

Change of hair.  Another selfie.  And submit.

Well cancel THAT!  Somehow I didn't think I looked like Nick Nolte!  I won't put that up for scrutiny on Berry's Meme.  So...*sigh*...back to that world again.

Change of hair.  Another selfie. And submit.
