Thinking About my Lucky Life

Dear Diary:

The news still flourishes with pictures and stories from the horrific tornado that devastated Moore, OK.  My heart breaks when I see the homes destroyed, lives uprooted and families broken.  I can't imagine what these people are going through or what horrible trauma they've endured.

Yes, I live where we have raging snow storms that can shut down the city...but I still have my home.  Right, I've put away the ugly pictures of me and my brothers taken when we had braces and stringy hair...but those photos are available in my closet to bring out for memories.  Of course, I've hidden the ugly vase that has been past down from Great Aunt Tilly...but I have family items to keep.

Things that can't be lost by anyone, at any time are family, friends and loved ones.  Those are what everyone holds as most precious and when taken from us, they're gone forever.  How do you recover from that?

My thoughts, prayers and hopes fly to those strong families in Oklahoma who, though experiencing extreme difficulty, are looking ahead.

Good Night for now.

My Autumn in Soho

Dear Diary:

When I read that this week the colour challenge was "Autumn in Soho", did I think England?  Nope.  I thought New York.  And that thought lead to "Autumn in New York", a romantic movie I saw on television one night and where I cried my eyes out because of the sad ending.  That passed along my brain to the borough outside of Manhattan called Soho.  I know, I know...strange thought processes but that's the way I work it!

I did honestly spend a wonderful autumn week in New York and managed to take a drive through Soho so I hope that qualifies me to use the title I gave this post.

Good Night for now.

Where Will You Be Wearing Your Towel?

Dear Diary:

Saturday, May 25th, is Towel Day.  The day marks the annual celebration for the author, Douglas Adams (1952-2001)

Adams was not a prolific writer but produced some interesting reading.  His best known work is  "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", published as a trilogy.  Following this, Adams wrote a short series called, "Dirk Gentley's Holistic Detective Agency".  He also wrote three episodes for the television series "Doctor Who".

Adams often inserted comedy and satire into his writings but he was also very serious about environmental issues and encouraged a preservation of the earth.  Being a conservationist, he wrote "Last Chance to See", concerning the extinction of species.

Adams died on May 11, 2001 being only 49 years of age. Two weeks after his death, fans organized a tribute to him, Towel Day, which has been observed every year since then.

How do people celebrate Towel Day?  A complete list of things going on can be found here.

Everyone can pick up their free towel at the Marketplace, thanks to the generosity and creativeness of Uccello Poultry [blog].

So whether you wear it at the Club, at the beach, or on the street, grab one and celebrate in your own way.

Good Night for now.

A New Store to Me #5

Dear Diary:

I found a new store that has a delightful selection of clothes for women on the go.  I came upon Koko's Closet quite by accident.  Shopping wasn't on the agenda for the day but I decided to stop my travels to have a look around.  Right before me was a charming store so I thought I would take a peek inside.

The store's features are described as spotlighting "comfortable, classic, casual clothes for women" and that defines it perfectly.

I found a nice array of summer items.  There is an excellent range of colours for the capris, with tops for a mix or match look.  A variety of sundresses in monochromatic or pastel colours are featured.  I particularly liked the metallic leggings, which I bought for my next night out.  There's also some exceptional accessories, from sunglasses, scarves and purses to sexy lingerie.

It was really difficult to pick something to highlight the shop but I absolutely loved this silk dress in a sunny yellow.  The awesome bonus is the mesh fit me perfectly without the need for alterations.

On your next shopping trip, stop by at Koko's Closet and see what they have.

Good Night for now.

Simply Cider for Mother's Day

Dear Diary:

Mothers deserve a day devoted entirely to themselves.  A day at the spa perhaps.  Or time spent for a manicure.  Even an entire day of total self-indulgence.  Now what world does THAT happen in?  So now let's get real!

To all the mothers who are grocery shopping, cooking meals, changing diapers, doing laundry, washing kids, cleaning up, ironing and helping with homework, on top of putting gas in the car, raking the lawn, taking out the garbage, and paying the bills, in addition to being doctor, lawyer, counsellor, minister, and computer technician,  I say CONGRATULATIONS ON A JOB WELL DONE!

Good Night for now.

A New Exhibit by Mathilde Vhargon

Dear Diary:

I've posted news on Mathilde Vhargon's wonderful digital art before.  I admire her work very much so I decided to feature her latest exhibit at the Cuauhnahuac Gallery.

Inside the foyer, there is a poster of Mathilde.  Click it to find a copy of her bio, a little about her paintings and where she has exhibits of her work.

Mathilde enjoys using primary colours in her digital art and it always amazes me how she manages to put it all together while maintaining aesthetic quality.  As a true artist, Mathilde compels the viewer to put their own meanings to each picture, regardless of the title.
Dream of Returning
Promises

Toward the Light
This last piece is my favourite from the new display.

Mathilde's signature mark is a leaf, in various forms or colours that she incorporates into all her paintings.  Can you find it?

I have gone to all of Mathilde's exhibits and think that this one is the best she's done.  The colours are outstanding and every piece portrays a thought provoking response.

Try to visit the Cuauhnahuac Gallery when you can.  The building itself is wonderful to visit and has a sense of serenity when walking through the rooms.  Mathilde's show is on the main floor and on the second is a very interesting display by Antenna Rae.

Good Night for now.
