The Event

Dear Diary:

I've always admired and been in awe of the very talented creators in Second Life, in particular the Japanese innovators.  I've been a fan of theirs ever since I happened upon this world several years ago.  In my closet, I have many items designed and manufactured by these inventors.  So, I was extremely pleased to see an event, Creationjp where I could go and see a lot of different Japanese designers.  Some were new to me so I enjoyed seeing what they produced.

I love the red polka dot blouse I'm wearing.  This is my first liquid mesh purchase.  It fits well and does move very nicely when I move.  The sailor dress has several options, and can be worn as separate pieces so you can make the most out of the outfit.

I understand from the official website that this will be a regular event.  The current session started on June 21st and will run until July 15th.  The items on display cover not only clothing, but hair, shoes and a prop with poses.  All are quality items, made with ingenuity and attention to detail.  The vendors can be seen here.

Good Night for now.

The First Day of Summer

Dear Diary:

Yes, June 21 not only marks the first day of summer, but it is the longest day of the year.  My friend Chloe and I went to the beach to celebrate.

The sun is the farthest north at this time of year but you'd never know it in my part of the north.  The temperature at it's highest today, will be 12C or about 54F.  It's raining now and is expected to continue until tonight.  This is the first day of summer??  Good thing I've got my second world to be in.  Here it is always summer.

My Avatar is a Corpse

Dear Diary:

It's a very interesting meme this week.  I'm not sure if I should answer as Dreamer or as me....hmmmm....or are they the same????

1. What would you eat for your last meal?
Probably a wonderful looking mesh dish with 0 calories.  As for me, it would be a rotini pasta with jalapenos, sweet peppers, and black olives.  Oh and lots of garlic and olive oil.

2. Where do dead avatars go?
They never die.  They just go on and on and on and....

3. Have you ever been to a cemetery in SL? If so, which one(s)?
I've been to Linden Memorial several times.  I also had a friend who died in our first world.  All of her friends set up a memorial location for her.  I go there often.

4. What would you like them to do at your avatar wake?
I would like the same thing as I would in my first world.  I want a big party with my favourite songs being played; lots of good food; lots of wine; and plenty of laughs.

5. What would you like it to say on your avatar tombstone?
"This name is no longer available."

6. Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you?
It would be impossible to choose which would be worse.  They're both traumatic.

7. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
I would visit my family, in all worlds.

8. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
Humans have choices. Unfortunately a lot of extras, such as family background, expectations and personality, get in the mixture to bring us to a choice.   Sometimes it's good --sometimes it isn't.  That's what makes us so interesting.

9. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
Live life like it's never going to end.

10. What color is your underwear?
If I said, I'm not wearing any right now, would that be Dreamer or me.....hmmmmm???

Good Night for now.

A Pet That's Perfect for Me

Dear Diary:

I live in the tropics.  The water is always sparkling blue; fluffy white clouds in the sky; and, beautiful sand between my toes.  Maybe I picked this location because my first world is far far from that scenario.  But I love living there with plants in full bloom all year round.

Many of my friends in my second world have pets - dogs, cats, and assorted exotic species.  I wanted a pet too but one that fit into my locale.  And I got the perfect one for me.

I thought a flamingo was just right for my home.  He walks and eats from the water.  He does come up onto the sand to greet me.  He's really no trouble at all and he certainly didn't need to be house trained.  I don't know how much of a guard flamingo he is.  He really is very friendly.  I haven't named him yet but I'm thinking of getting him a companion so he's not alone when I travel.

Perfect for me!

Good Night for now.

June is Graduation Month Everywhere (it seems)

Dear Diary:

It's Graduation time.  I've been to lots.  This week...this my lifetime.

My first convocation was from high school.  I was not a devoted student but I made it through Grade 13.  I got my diploma but boycotted the ceremony.  I was protesting - something - but I can't remember what.  My next graduation came after my first foray at university.  I opted out from that ceremony too.  Back again at university, I was faced with  the last chance for partaking in a commencement.  My Mother begged me to at least go once to let her see me actually progress out of some school.  I went.

Now students seem to have a grad at every turn on their educational track.  I've gone to a kindergarten grad, with cap and gown; a junior elementary grad; and of course the senior public school convocation.  I've attended a high school gala, a college ceremony and a university commencement all in one week.  Yes, it's passages, rituals and part of growing up.  Of course, it's satisfying for the family to know that it's finally over...or is it?

Good Night for now.

  1. What are your thoughts about Fitted mesh? At first I thought Fitted Mesh might fix the problems that some of us were having with fitting Mesh clothes, especially if altering our avatar was not an option.  I've tried a couple of tops and pants in Fitted Mesh and it doesn't seem to fit me as well as I thought it would. I was disappointed and have not acquired any more Fitted Mesh clothing.
  2. Have you tried any of the new fitted mesh avatars released by Linden Lab? What do you think of them?  No I haven't tried the new avatars.  I've seen a few and they look interesting but have no desire to try one out.  I was told by one that hair and clothing doesn't always fit them.
  3. Have you tried any fitted mesh avatars/bodies created by residents?  I haven't tried these either.
  4. Have you tried a mesh head? What are your thoughts about mesh heads?  Yes I have tried a few demos of the mesh head.  I really don't care for them.  When I looked at myself wearing the head, it just wasn't me.  I've developed my facial look and I'm attached to it.  It felt like I was wearing a mask.
  5. Do you foresee a lot of changes to our current Second Life avatars because of fitted mesh? I imagine it's bound to happen.  Mesh feet and mesh hands are well accepted now so I guess the head and body will be standard in the future.  However, I don't think everyone will want to be a cookie cutter copy of others so there always will be individuality.
Good Night for now.
