It's Ugly Christmas Sweater Time!

Dear Diary:

I love Christmas sweaters, in either of my lives.  I have some with trees, some with reindeer and some with every Christmas symbol available.  I don't know why they're called "ugly".   I find them "fun".  To me it almost predicts the personality of the wearer.  So this year, since I'm not able to shop as much as I can, I convinced my friend Sam to join me in my craziness.  He (grudgingly) responded with a yes right away.

We do look rather festive and it certainly put us both in the Christmas spirit.

Good Night for now.

The Walls Are Closing In!

Dear Diary:

Yes...the walls are closing in on me!!  Here I am...trapped in my house...can't drive...can't even sit at my computer for any length of time so I really am going stir crazy!!

I felt the need to go shopping so I flew into Collabor88.  I was having a wonderful day out but then knew I couldn't be long.  Everything starts to ache.  I picked up this cute sweater dress from Decoy.

I really wanted a glamour shot but it was all I could do to take this one.  Hmmm.  The cast really doesn't add anything, does it?

My apologies for not adding all the extras here.  My butt is getting sore.

Good Night for now.

Once a Geek - Always a Geek

Dear Diary:

One year Strawberry Singh had a Monday Meme encouraging us to find out if we were geeks or nerds.  I took the test.  I came out 59% geek.  I always knew that.  So when the Geeks n' Nerds Fair started, I flew out to see it as soon as I could.  THAT was my kind of fair!

I did spend a lot of $$ but here are a few of my favourite purchases:

I love this prop (with poses) by Cubic Cherry, "The Doctor is in.."  I was always a fan of Charlie Brown and Dr Who so I feel this was a combo of the two.  The booth comes in 3 colour options and several poses.  I felt so...ummm...helpful sitting there.

My tee is by Cute Poison.  The shirt is mesh body compatible, comes in black with 6 different messages on the front.  It's a fun buy.

To top it off, I visited Izzie's booth.  She has a free gift of "googly" eyes that make you look crazy.  What I liked best was her gacha machines that coughed up wonderfully geeky sayings.  They come on yellow stickies that can be moved around to stick on any part of your body.

The Fair closes on November 1 so make sure you get to see all the fantastic offerings by these talented creators.  The sim itself is well worth seeing.  It's a clever design that shows off the vendor locations to the best.

Good Night for now.

I'm wearing from the Geeks n' Nerds Fair:

Falling Asleep Can Be Difficult

Dear Diary:

Sometimes I have difficulty falling asleep so I often read when I go to bed.  Depending on the book in my hand, I could fall asleep quickly or take some time getting adjusted but whatever the situation, I eventually fall asleep.

This method always seems to work for me so I was surprised when I read that "bibliotherapy" was fast becoming a great remedy for those that couldn't fall asleep quickly.  A bibliotherapist interviews patients to perhaps see what might be bothering the client.  Then after the session, the therapist may suggest a fiction book that could have an impact on the person.  The theme or message of the book could provide invaluable treatment.  This is not a totally new idea.  Veterans from the Second World War, who experienced great trauma, were often given books in an effort to heal their minds.

I will always enjoy reading when I go to bed.  It does help me sleep.  And someday I hope to finish one of the books I start.

I Celebrated National Grouch Day

Dear Diary:

I am NOT a grouchy person!  So when I read that " if you are a grouch, October 15th is your special day", I laughed.  That certainly didn't mean me.  But then my day started.

There was no coffee beans left to make my morning cup; the zipper on my skirt jammed and I had to shimmy out of it and my hair was just out of control.  On the way to work, a man in a truck cut me off in the turning lane and I spilled the coffee I had just picked up at Tim Horton's.  By the time I pulled into the parking lot at work, I realized I had forgotten the top half of my uniform.  I had also forgotten my lunch at home.  I completely forgot about a teleconference that I was supposed to log in to and when I finally remembered, it was on a topic I didn't know anything about.  After work, I was late getting home and suddenly thought that I was supposed to pick up milk at the store.  As I was backing out of the driveway, I noticed the gas gauge was almost on empty which meant that supper would be much later than usual.

Did I turn into a grouch?  You bet I did.  Next year I will circle the 15th on the calendar.

Good Night for now.

Happy Thanksgiving Canada!

Dear Diary:

This is Thanksgiving Weekend in Canada.  In my first world, I'm cooking a big turkey dinner for all my family and friends.  In my second life, I'm celebrating In the same way.

I invited Sam and Chloe for a mouth-watering turkey dinner, lots of stuffing, lots of gravy and finishing off with pumpkin pie and whipped cream.

The three of us wish all of our Canadian friends a Happy Thanksgiving.  Enjoy the day with family and friends.

Good Night for now.

The Wonderful Colours of Autumn

Dear Diary:

The beginning of the fall season started a few weeks back and in my part of the world it's very evident.  The trees are turning quickly - yellow, orange and a lime green.  I don't have many hardwoods in my area so there aren't a lot of the bright red sugar maples.  The few that do pop up occasionally are very noticeable.  I called up my friend Chloe and asked if she would like to play in the leaves.  She was all for it.

Just getting into an area that looked like our autumn, brought out the "kids" in us.  It's always fun to get in a pile of leaves and throw them around.  But then you have to rake them up again.

Today Celebrate Everything Coffee

Dear Diary:

Today is National Coffee Day and it's a day close to my heart.  I love a nice cup of coffee, in the morning, to wake my up and at night to put me to sleep.  Several of our main coffee shops are celebrating by offering specials today.  Starbucks offered a thumbs up on Instagram but no free coffee but Dunkin' Donuts is.  Tim Horton's has this to say about Coffee Day.

According to the Huffington Post, Canadians consume about 2.8 cups of coffee a day so I'm waaaay above the average.

Go out and enjoy a nice cup before the day ends.

You Need a New Outfit When You Visit

Dear Diary:

I was looking for somewhere new to go to the other day and I saw an ad for Hesperia Templemore.  The blurb mentioned "live music" which I always like so I decided to fly out and have a look.  Ooops...but I thought I'd better get some new things since nothing in my closet seem to appeal to me.  I thought I'd look around some of the shopping events and settled on Kustom9 where I found lots.

I bought two different hair styles and am wearing the one from monso.  It has a pretty style that frames the face and streaks that look natural.  I tried my hand at the gacha machines at Cocoroni, for the hoodie and Soy, for the headphones.  I love the ripped look of the jeans from Addams but it also comes with a plain pair so literally 2 for 1!!  Kustom9 ends October 10th so you have time to do some shopping.

Hesperia Templemore is a very interesting sim.  I didn't catch a live show but spent an hour just walking.  The buildings have great texture and added touches like the sign I'm standing in front of.  Road ways and sidewalks are designed with sophisticated patterns.

Visit both places if you get a chance.

Good Night for now.

It's The "Read Anywhere" Option

Dear Diary:

I was reading an article from The Wall Street Journal the other day that really peaked my interest.  It stated that "it’s not the e-reader that will be driving future books sales, it’s the phone".

The article stated that many people who liked to read often didn't have the time or ability to sit down with a book (hard cover or paperback) or with an e-reader, to read the latest in stories.  When confronted with these obstacles, they went to their phone, being light, compact and always available.

The article told the story of a young man, feeding his baby at 3am.  He realized it was easy reading on his dimly lit phone with one hand.  He could read when he was able, put it away then continue on at the next available time.
Now book publishers are thinking about the way books are designed, marketed and sold with the smaller screens in mind.  Cell phones have improved over the years in size and with much clearer, brighter screens.  And the phones are very convenient for reading a book, whether you're riding the bus or standing in line to check out your  groceries.
The news story cited that the number of people who read primarily on phones has risen to 14% in 2015 from 9% three years ago.  I've tried reading on my phone, and while it is very handy, I will do it if I have to but I still like a book.
Good Night for now.

Thinking About My Wonderful Summer

Dear Diary:

It seems that as soon as Labour Day is here and gone, my summer turns into fall.  So the other day, in the late afternoon, I sat out on my deck and thought about how the summer came and went so quickly.

I spent the summer just the way I wanted to.  I worked for the early part but managed to take some days off to be able to enjoy our very short but lovely summer.  I did have vacation time but didn't do much during those weeks either.  I put a small vegetable garden in this year, which was totally odd for me.  I love flowers but don't particularly care for the veggies.  However, I planted beans, peas, a few carrots and beets and was very surprised at how well they did.  I have managed to have a few suppers using the results from my garden.  So I guess vegetables aren't that bad after all.

I do like a certain routine in my life so I'm glad to be back to looking after my first life and my second world.  It's wonderful to have holidays and lead a serene life but it's great to have the hustle and bustle back too.

I Love the Vintage Look

Dear Diary:

I had the chance to fly into the Vintage Fair today.  I love the '20's to '60's look and when I spotted this dress, I knew I had to have it.

The dress by Dead Dollz, is a knock-out!  It comes in a variety of colours and it was really hard to choose a hue that I wanted.  I always go for black so I decided to pick the green colour and I was very pleased with it.  The top gives the illusion of a very sheer tulle with intricate beading on the bodice and sleeves.  The bow is optional but I felt it added to the look of the dress.  Unfortunately, the dress is only made for the Maitreya body.

I felt the look of the dress was Fortyish although the skirt is a bit short for that.  But I wanted to achieve that decade so the Olivia hair from enVOGUE added to the setting.

The Vintage Fair is only on for a few more days so make sure you swoop out to see all the amazing things there.

Good Night for now.

It's Time To Return To Real Life

Dear Diary:

Ah yes!  Coming back from vacation means returning to real life.  Never mind entering a stuffy house; sorting through the endless papers; or emptying the sour milk in the fridge, it's what you encounter when you get back to work.

Everything seems to be out of proportion.  It's overwhelming looking at my desk, the notes, the mail.

It's Time For My Vacation. Hurray!

Dear Diary:

It seems I haven't had a vacation in years and yet I've had a few days off here and there.  I understand that one needs 3 weeks off straight to go back to work and feel refreshed.  The first week is to get your mind to turn off the work mode; the second week is to enjoy whatever you're doing; and, the third is when your mind kicks back to potential work thoughts again.  Having said that profound statement (true or not), I will follow up with that idea.

Hope everyone is having a blissful summer holiday.  I'll see you in a few weeks.

A Selfie Stick Can Be Hit or Miss - Literally!

Dear Diary:

Everyone likes to take a selfie - with a group of friends, in an unlikely area with animals, or at a well known landmark.  The invention of the selfie stick has enabled groups to get into the picture with much better results. However, several well known places are banning the selfie sticks.

Internationally, the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City are all asking patrons not to bring selfie sticks to their venue.  The buildings are usually crowded at this time of year and other visitors can be injured through carelessness on the part of the photographer.

In the United States, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, along with the Smithsonian,  are taking a stand against selfie sticks.  Both of these museums have cited issues with the sticks, again with injuries to other patrons but also causing damage to works of art.  It has been suggested that a full photography ban might follow.

I visited a wonderful art gallery last week and with my selfie stick, took a picture in front of a painting but I was very careful not to hurt the picture or other patrons that were in the gallery.

The Haven Gallery and Art Garden is an interesting place to visit, showing art in both picture form and sculpture.  It's worth a visit.  The picture behind me from the Gallery  is by Awesome Fallen, entitled Morpheus door 1.

It's Perfect Summer Weather

Dear Diary:

I'm really enjoying this summer.  It's perfect summer weather for me.  Not too hot...not too cold...just right!  And this shows just how I'm liking it in both of my worlds.

In my first world, I spend the summers on a lake, with a dock much like this.  I love sitting there with the waves lapping up against the foundation.  It's been a wonderful relaxing month out there in the sun.  Although, the seagulls never get this close.

In my second world, it's always summer.  My dock is connected to the patio of my house, and ends up in the lagoon where I can swim to cool off.

I live a glorious life.

Everyone Enjoys a Carnival

Dear Diary:

Sunday was "National Ice Cream Day", with my favourite flavour being Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia (yes, I was a DeadHead).  I hadn't seen my bff Chloe in a long time so I texted her saying, "Let's meet up for a double decker."  Now Chloe is constantly aware of her calorie intake, which drives me CRAZY but she agreed quickly and suggested the Wayward Carnival.  I love carnival rides so that sounded perfect.  Of course while there, we did have to go and get our ice cream.

While we were waiting for the ferris wheel to finish its run, we discussed how we had both been shopping at some of the great events going on.  Chloe saw the dress I had just purchased and mentioned she had wanted the same one.  I suggested she go pick one up - in a different colour of course.

It was a fun day, even though Chloe couldn't resist giving me the calorie count in my delicious ice cream.  Like....who cares?

You Can Ask Me Anything!

Dear Diary:

June is a very busy month for me so I was late seeing Strawberry Singh's Monday Meme.  I'm also a little late with the post but here it is!

1. If Linden Lab shut the door on Second Life, what do you think you might do to replace it, or the time you spend on it. Gaming, school, work, reading, other virtual world, etc?
Hmmm....tough question.  I really enjoy Second Life.  I like the idea I can be a chameleon and be / look however I choose.  I would probably look around for another world although I think it would be very difficult to find something that could or would replace my Second Life.  I also think most of us already accomplish extras like school, work, reading and family in our "spare" time so those wouldn't be a replacement for me.

2. What would you consider your mission statement for your blog?
I think my mission statement would be to keep true to my thoughts and to myself.  I write about what I enjoy.  Often I tie in my RL to some extent.  Sometimes I have definite opinions which I am not afraid to voice.  I love doing this blog and I know I would have to continue with blogging in some other capacity.  I guess, I hope, that what I write interests other people but I don't think that matters to me.  The number of views of my blog is not really important, it's the fact I'm writing!

3. What would you change about your SLife right now if you could just press a magic button and have it automatically happen?
I don't think I would change very much.  I'm comfortable with my SLife; my friends; my travel and my home.  Perhaps, to be able to dress my mesh body and not have to worry that my bits are showing, would be magic for me.

4. What topic would you like to see explored in a non fashion blog post? Anything you are curious about and want someone else to do all the research?
In my other world, I do research so I always enjoy reading where people have delved into the "guts" of a topic.  I would be interested in the technology of SL - how we can get the max out of it; what happens behind our screens and what computer add-ons or fix-ups would help.

5. Do you have a point of contact in SL? Someone that a person from your RL knows to contact in case something happens to you or you are unable to get online for an extended period of time?
Yes I do.  A RL friend got me into SL in the first place so she knows the "real" me.

6. What provides you the most inspiration and motivation to keep learning and growing? What keeps you from being held back by the common negativity in SecondLife and elsewhere?
I'm self-motivated.  I like to learn new things (when I have the time) so I will always keep going.  I see negativity in SL but it doesn't intrude on my life.  I don't hang out with negative people in either world and if someone like that happens to come my way, they're gone.

7. How do you deal with other bloggers (who don't know you personally) that are spiteful towards you?
I really don't have to deal with this since no one knows who I am.  But if I did, I know it wouldn't bother me.  I would ignore it.  I always think that when someone is overly nasty to you, it stems from a little jealousy on their side.

8. What is your advice to those that admire you and what you do, hoping to be able to do some of the same things with as much confidence as you often seem to have?
This gave me a chuckle.  I must admit, I have a lot of confidence in either world.  I'm very secure in who I am but I would never try to tell anyone how to achieve that.  That's something that just comes to you.  I'm sure no one in this world or my other world "admires" me.  It would surprise me a lot if they did.

9. Name 5 favorite events in Second Life.
1. FaMESHed - great place for new mesh ideas
2. The Arcade - fulfills my gambling habit
3. Hair Fair - hair whore - guilty
4. A Tattered Page - love the correlation of book and creator
5. Pose Fair - can't get enough poses

10. Name 3 of your favorite blogs.
Sorry...just can't pare it down to 3.  I read a lot every day; some several times a week; and others periodically.  They are all well done and it amazes me how many creative people there are who have great photography skills, tremendous fashion sense and the ability to put it all together with a meaningful background.  I gain a lot of information from them.  I would hate to name only 3.

Nice to be doing a meme again.

Me & Lara Are Joined At The Hip

Dear Diary:

A few months ago, for her weekly Monday Meme, Strawberry Singh again asked our digits but also included a short questionnaire on mesh bodies.  You can see what I wrote then.  I was "meh" about the mesh body idea at that time.  I had demoed a few but found it too much trouble adjusting, fixing and hiding when adding clothes.  I ended up not being me at all.  I bought Maitreya's Lara on the advice of friends.  I put it on and liked it but it sat in my closet for quite awhile.  After writing the meme in April, I decided to really make an effort to give it a good run.  I did.  And now Lara and I are one.

I bought skin, difficult for me since I had worn the same skin for years.  But I do love my new one now.  Decidedly, I had to tweak a few things when I started to wear Lara all the time.  My boobs seemed to be too large so I made them a bit smaller.  I added to my arms to make them a little heavier.  I seemed to do some kind of change almost every day until I got a look I like.

I went on to join the "Maitreya Lara Friends Group" which is great for answering a lot of questions I had.  I read many blogs, especially "Mesh Body Addicts".  The Mesh Bodies 101 was a great post and very helpful for someone like me who always needs instructions.  Of course the Maitreya blog was great too.

In the next Lara version, I would like to see more options, in particular with the hands, although Slink hands do work quite well with this body.

Never did I imagine I would be so taken with a mesh body.  I thought it would be like other things in my closet - bought on a whim; worn a few times; then discarded.  But it hasn't been that way at all.  I'm hooked!

Next I'll tackle those mesh heads!

Good Night for now.

I Bought Lots at The Arcade

Dear Diary:

SL offers many many great shopping events and believe me, I spend at ALL of them but the one event I love going to is The Arcade.  I'm not a gambler in my first life.  The Scottish part of me can't understand that concept.  I'm willing to spend money but I want something in my hand for it.  So The Arcade covers that for me.  I always get something for my money and it's a gamble in what the prize might be.  I was very lucky this time.
The rowboat, by {what next} is my favourite purchase.  You "wear" it so it can be used in any water area.  The oars fit nicely in your hands and you can actually row around at a good clip.
The swimsuit fits my mesh body very well.  I did buy a medium so everything is covered nicely.  It comes in an assortment of patterns and plains and I would have been happy with any of them.  The cap also comes in a good variety of cute patterns and the choices are all great.  I think the parasol gives me a "girly" look.
The wedges didn't show in this picture but I really love them.  They're made for Slink or Maitreya and come in so many colours.  I bought two pairs and am thinking of going back for another.  They look very nice with capris or a jumpsuit.
I bought more items than are shown.  A lot of house décor items are in the nautical theme so that fit in with my home perfectly.  I'm sure I'll be making another trip to The Arcade before it closes on July 1st.
Good Night for now.

A New Store to Me #14

Dear Diary:

My friend, Sam, came to visit the other day, wearing a fantastic tee and wild coloured shorts.  He looked very A-1!!  Not that he doesn't look good most of the time but sometimes he can be a bit...ummmm....overly casual.  Of course I had to ask him where he got the new clothes and he told me "Bomshie".  That definitely was a new store to me so I had to fly out and have a look.

I was very impressed with what I found.

When you enter the store, you're in the customer service area where there are great group gifts available on the counter and also a special item offered for the Saturday sale.  This week it was a jumpsuit  of summery colours, at a special price.  Of course I had to buy it since it looks great with sandals or stilettos.

The main floor has a lot of interesting clothing for women, with a small area for men.   Everything is a little edgy with different styling and bright colours.  There are a lot of patterns in skirts and tops.  I really like the brightness and playfulness of the clothes.
I noticed that the displays change quickly.  I've been to the store a few times and there's always new items on display.

Bomshie does carry a few accessories - a good selection of clutch bags; very nice bracelets and some socks.  Just before the elevator, there is an area with shoes and some coats.

When you visit, don't forget to take the elevator up to the second floor where you'll find a lot more summer outfits, including swim suits.

I bought a few things at Bomshie that were just my taste and they all fit me perfectly with very little adjustment.  I'm wearing my favourite purchase in the picture.

Good Night for now.
