A BOOOOO-tiful Day

Dear Diary:

It IS a "BOOOO-tiful" day for Hallowe'en and I'm so glad the kids will be able to go out tonight without wearing snow boots!  I'm off to a party too so this is my final pick for my 2010 costume.  I just picked some things from my closet and threw them together to try and be creative.  Of course, I did have a little help from some great designers.

To help me get in the mood, I visited a Hallowe'en sim that is a wonderful place for taking pictures - Porter and Loegan's Hallowe'en Island.
The eery fog swirls around and around accompanied by several spirits and a persistent ghost.
The one thing I'm truly afraid of is....SPIDERS!!! I am shrieking for real!
The blood and gore make a nice background for my picture.

I'm off to my party.  Can't wait to sink my teeth fangs into the candy.

Good Night for now

Boooo-ming costumes

Dear Diary:

OK...I'm really getting into it now.  I'm counting on the weather being nice for the kids [and me] so that when they go out, it's not raining, cold or snowing!  I hate to see them and their parents freezing their costumes off walking around for the "reduced sized" chocolate bars.  It's always more pleasant when the weather co-operates at this time of year.

I went back into my closet after the last entry and dug around for some more of my favs so here I am with more of the costumes I really like.  In each of these pictures, I only added hair [except for the pet in the first picture]
These silks, particularly in this colour, always make me feel tres sexy. I love the red and gold colour and, with the added gold trim, it's sensational.  This outfit comes with the bangles too.  Of course, I added the friendly snake.  A nice touch if I do say so myself.
"Bloody bride" is a good title for this costume.  I just couldn't resist this one since it was free and came with the dress, jewelry, skin AND knife!  It was a group gift but well worth joining B! fashions for.  They have great gifts and this one is outstanding.
I feel like a mermaid, not a dragon as the title of this costume indicates.  But it does personify those "-maids" that live under the sea.  The costume comes with two different options for the top, plus the sea spines and head dress. I even danced in this one so it is user friendly.

I'm having such a good time dressing up as someone else.  Hmmm...maybe I have multiple personalities.  It sure is fun putting on costumes.

Good Night for now.

BOOOOOO!!

Dear Diary:

I don't like to be scared.  I don't like to be shocked.  And I don't like to be frightened. That's why I don't go to horror movies.  The bloody champagne fountains, the headless bodies, and the figures being tortured in the rack always make my stomach flip-flop.  So Hallowe'en is not my favourite time of year.  But I do love all the candy and I do like to dress up.

Some of the best costumes I've seen are ones that people put together themselves.  I'm not very creative so I tend to buy one from a store and there are a lot of great places in this world to buy costumes.
Here is one I really love.  It exemplifies the Roarin' 20's exactly.  The dress with all the beading, one necklace and silk stockings come with the outfit.  I also bought the hair and head piece (which is colour changing).  I added a few pieces myself but not much was needed to make this a great costume.
This is a very sexy "Catwoman" costume I bought last year.  It was a big hit at the party I went to.  The costume is very complete so the only thing I had to add was something for my feet.  I added boots here but wore stilettos last time and they looked good too.  Even the whip, which is detachable, is included.
I'm not really the delicate fairy type but this costume was so pretty I couldn't resist it.  The dress, head piece and wings come together in the package.  The woodsy colour is different than the usual pastel shades.  I found a fairy skin in my inventory.  The skin sports tattoos on the face and breast area.  When I put it all on, it gives me an ethereal look. I love the broom with the pumpkin light.  The pumpkin has changeable colour and a choice of features.

More costumes will be mentioned in the next few days.  I'm getting into the costume mood since Hallowe'en is only a few days away.

Good Night for now.

The Animal in Me

Leopard boots with zipper up the back
Dear Diary:
I must admit I LOVE animal prints!  And this world seems to have some of the best this season.  These are in my closet at the moment (along with a lot more) and it's hard to choose what to show you here.  But I think I've made some good decisions.

Zebra Stillettos
I love the giraffe-patterned dress by Fume
Dark Mouse has 4 handbags in a pack, all of them animal prints.
Tiger Carry All Bag
These woolen Zebra leggings are so comfortable, especially paired with a cozy turtleneck sweater.  Keeps me warm even in rainy weather.
Of course, one needs jewelry to complete an outfit.
Zebra bangles

Cheetah bracelets
Animal prints are sexy and add a "POW" to any outfit. And right now, they're very trendy.

Good Night for now.

I Love to Play Dress-up!

Dear Diary:

There's nothing like putting on a pretty dress, going out and looking GREAT!  I do love my jeans and tees but I really like wearing dresses for any occasion.

It's tricky buying a dress off the rack without trying it on.  You run that risk of getting home, putting it on and finding it just doesn't fit right.  So you decide if you should try to get it fixed by a dress maker or take it back and look for something else.  But in this world, taking it back just isn't an option.  I've been stung like that a few times, and at times it involves a lot of Lindens.  It was just my luck to walk into (Elate!) last year when it was the Fifty Linden Friday special.  I liked the dress, it was a good deal so I bought it. What a fortunate stroke of luck for me!

I like short, slim fitting dresses at times and Kellie Iwish, of (Elate!), does it perfectly.  She has the ability to make dresses look good and fit so well.  I visit her store whenever I'm looking for a good fitting dress that doesn't have to be adjusted a million times or just will never fit right.  These are three I have in my wardrobe.
Tuli was my first purchase.  You can wear it without the collar.  Add a necklace, a brooch or a scarf and you have a completely different look for different occasions, from casual to a night out for dinner.

Felicity is a great club dress.  The tiered skirt swings and flips when you dance.  The colour is a true yellow and really stands out in the crowd.

Maria is a very sophisticated cocktail dress.  I love the petals on the collar but when the collar is removed, you have a spaghetti strap dress.  The back, which I didn't show, has a very interesting criss-cross strap detail.

Just talking about the dresses makes me want to run to Kellie's store for just one more addition to my collection.

Good Night for now.

Cozy cardigans

Dear Diary:

I like to keep warm and now that the weather is turning a little chilly, I dug in my closet to get out some of my favourite cardigans.
This black cardigan is always my standby. It's nice and long so it covers a lot.  It's also very versatile.  Here I'm wearing it with leggings but I've also worn it with a strapless mini dress just to keep away the shivers.  I love this sweater and it comes in a variety of colours at LMK.
The bolero by G Field comes in several sleeves lengths but for me, the long sleeve version is the the one I wear most.  I love the ruffles around the neck and cuffs.  The detail is amazing!  It's dressy without being fussy so it even looks great with jeans.
Skin Flicks describes this sweater as a "cascade sweater" and that's a PERFECT description. The back and sides swirl when you walk.  The collar fits around the neck so nicely and really makes you feel cozy just looking at it.  It was hard picking a colour to buy but I liked this lime green the best.
The bulky knit sweater from LeLutka is very similar in style and colour to a sweater in my other world.  And that sweater is one of my favs so I had to include this in my choices.  I love the detail in the knitting stitches and the draping in the arms.  The belt adds a nice touch and gives me an idea for my other world sweater.

I do have a passion for all sweaters but cardigans can stretch the wardrobe.  For any social event or just staying home with a good book, a cardigan can be made to fit the occasion.  I can't have enough cardigans in my closet.  Maybe I'll have to go out shopping tomorrow...just to look around, of course.

Good Night for now.

"Dress for the Cause" on Friday, October 15th, 2010

Dear Diary:

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month .  All women and men should be aware of current information about this disease.

Applonia Criss, the designer for ChantKare, has given out a beautiful pink dress to her group members to bring breast cancer awareness to the forefront.
In 2010, in Canada, approximately 23,200 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.  On the average, 445 women will be diagnosed every week.  We need to take a proactive position to bring this disease to an end.

Practice self examination regularly at home.

Visit your doctor for scheduled exams and follow-up mammo-
grams.

Be aware of support services offered to those who have just been diagnosed or to those who are the care givers.
As women, we know that breast cancer is the most common cancer for us.  The National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation both provide educational programs for patients and survivors or anyone touched by this disease.  Your donations to either Foundation, provide free mammograms for patients who can't afford the test.  It's time to have control over this cancer and out lives.

On Friday, October 15th, 2010, show your support for breast cancer patients, survivors and researchers by participating in "Dress for the Cause".  On that day wear the traditional pink ribbon, put on your favourite pink outfit and donate to a foundation whether it be national or local.  Let's beat this together!!

Happy Thanksgiving in Canada!

Dear Diary:

Here it is October and that means Thanksgiving.  Actually it isn't officially here until tomorrow, October 11th but I'm celebrating tonight with a HUGE turkey dinner.  I set my table early and I was very happy with how it looked.  It is very elegant, yet very inviting.  But the turkey looked the best!  Mmmmm....I love turkey!

I invited two of my friends to join me since this is definitely a day to share with friends and family.

A very Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends.

Good Night for now.

A Restless Thinking Day

Dear Diary:

I love my thinking days.  It's a time when I get out my favourite chair, a cute black dress, sit and contemplate my thoughts about life.  It's a very relaxing time...usually.  But when I have things on my mind, it's hard for me to sit still and meditate about the good things in life.  Today was one of those agitated days for me.  I just couldn't get comfortable.
I have a holiday dinner coming up.  How big of a turkey should I get?  How many potatoes should I cook?  Do I have enough plates? What about coffee?  Should I make tea instead?  White or red wine?  What will I make for dessert?  Do I seat everyone at the dining room table?  Where will I put the kids?
Do I have to invite Aunt June?  If I do I can't ask Mrs. Fraser.  But then Mrs. Fraser will be offended.  But if I ask her, Aunt June won't come.  If Aunt June doesn't come, then Aunt Susan will also decline.  Do I care?  Should I care?

Well Dear Diary, as you can see this thinking day was not very relaxing at all.  But there can be days like that.  I guess it's all the stressful part of life.  Think I'll go to bed and think about it tomorrow.

Good Night for now.

A Shopping Bonanza

Dear Diary:

You know how I like to shop.  Well I had my eye on a very futuristic dress by Baiastice, available in The Dressing Room Blue.

The detail is amazing.  The metallic thread running through the trim sparkles and the tiered shoulder effects stand out without looking rigid.  I love the way the waist is accentuated by the wide band of trim.

The practical Dreamer said, "Hmmm, I'm kinda a casual girl at the best of times.  Where would I be wearing this?  And would I get my money out of it?"  [Scottish genes!]  But the hedonistic Dreamer said, "Oh you like it, then buy it!  It's a great look for a great price!"  So...here it is -

I paired it with silver leggings I had in my closet, and some grey shoes.  Silver jewelry goes well but so do diamonds...hehe.  Think I'll shop for those next.

I'm really glad I picked it up when I had the chance.  The Dressing Room Blue have now changed their stock but it could be available at the main store.

My Favourite Time of Year

 Dear Diary:

I really love the bright crispness of winter; spring brings on renewal and promise; summer is warm and lazy but fall is above all, with its lavishness of colour, my favourite time of year.
I love getting out in the back yard and just being a kid again.  I throw the leaves up in the air and watch them fall to the ground.
I sit on the ground and let the falling leaves come down around me.
I like to lie on my back, stare at the sky and let the leaves cover me.
I'm amazed at all the colours and shapes.
Ahhh yes...fall captures the beauty of everything around.
