Coffee House is Where I Want to Be

Dear Diary:

I must admit, in the morning, even before my feet hit the floor, the sound of the RRRRRR, (the grinder) and the blurb...blurb..blurb (water bubbling) wake me with a glorious mind-set.  Then the delicious smell filters down the hall way, infusing my nose with an aromatic bouquet.  And finally the beep...beep...beep of the machine indicates the end.  Finally I know the coffee is done and I can begin my morning.

I do need that cup in the morning.

New Store to Me #8

Dear Diary:

I found a new store the other day and it proved to be a great place to buy a little of everything.  The name of the place is Yulicie ....hmmmm...just thought...wonder if that's a take-off on Ulysses.  But back to the boutique.

I like the build of the place.  It's very down-to-earth and has a comfortable feeling.  There's a hopscotch on the floor right at the entrance.  The inventory is not jammed into every spot so it's easy to walk around other customers.  The visual look is very appealing.

There's a wide variety of casual clothing, everything from jeans, spandex and tees to pretty feminine tops and dresses.  Many of the items have a HUD so you can change the look to stretch your wardrobe, as in my selection.

I'm wearing a spandex pant, with suspenders and crop tee.  It comes in 6 colours, and with five different HUDs that can be purchased separately.  The HUD allows you to change the tee to different themes.

The  Yulicie Mainstore also has a good selection of hair for men and women.  I chose the man's style since I wanted to wear a hat.  Shoes and boots are on the second floor, along with jewelry and a few poses.  It's a total department store.

Since I got a cup of cappucino from the Gacha machine at Yulicie, I visited Mug Shot Coffee House to enjoy sitting in the sun with the cat, who seems to be most unimpressed.

Visit Yulicie and browse through their items.  You'll enjoy your visit.

Good Night for now.

Tee and Overalls: [y] Nora Outfit (lime)
Shoes: [y] Slip on (black)

Berry's Birthday Meme

Dear Diary:

Birthdays happen!  So Happy happy to Berry.

1. When is your birthday?  May 8th

2. Pick one person who shares your birthday and share what you know about them.
Martha Wainwright, sister of Rufus Wainwright, is a Canadian singer-songwriter who has performed not only with her brother, but also her mother, Kate McGarrigle.

3. List one notable event that took place on your birthday.  In 1886, John Pemberton, a pharmacist, first sold "Coca-Cola" as a patent medicine.

4. Tell us about a holiday that falls on your birthday.  Under Bizarre Holidays, I found that "No Socks Day" falls on May 8th.  I'll have to celebrate that next year.

Happy Birthday to everyone who is having, going to have, or has had a birthday this year.  Let's all be around to celebrate next year too.

Good Night for now.

Surrealism Brought Chaos to My Life

Dear Diary:

I think I always said that the Monday Memes by Strawberry Singh were both intriguing and challenging to me.  Well I admit this one was the ultimate!  I tried this several times and realized that I'm certainly not a Salvador Dali!!  {And never will be}

But it was a lot of fun to do.

Paraskavedekatriaphobic? Or Triskaidekaphobic?

Dear Diary:

AHA!!  Today will be bringing a lot of angst to the paraskavedekatriaphobics of all our worlds.

Paraskavedekatriaphobia is the fear of Friday the 13th [not the movie] and is considered to be one of the most widespread fears.  Some business people will not do transactions on this day.  Travel plans usually aren't made.  Dr. Donald Dossey is said to tell his patients, "Paraskevidekatriaphobia - when you learn to pronounce it, you're cured."

Last year the 13th landed on a Friday 3 times, each being 13 weeks apart.  Today was the first  in 2013 and another Friday the 13th is coming in December.

The term triskaidekaphobia, is the fear of the number 13 no matter where it is - any day on the calendar; the number of people sitting at a table; or hanging on a wall *smile*.  A lot of hotels skip the 13th floor as many clientele wouldn't stay there.

Nope...not phobic about either one of them.

What??? Me worry???

Good Night for now.

Memeception of Healthy Things

Dear Diary:

I love the memes that Berry puts out.  Sometimes they make me laugh; more often they challenge my brain; and always they make me want to try it.  And today's meme just did everyone of those for me!

I try to follow a healthy lifestyle with the right food, the proper vitamins and the NEWEST additions of edible seeds and nuts.  What an onerous job!  However, it's a great subject for the Monday Meme.

Grannie Loves Orchid House

Dear Diary:

Today is not only The Twisted Colour Challenge, but it's also Grandparents' Day, so I thought I would celebrate both events.

I was very close to my grandparents, on both sides, and enjoyed spending time with them and listening to their stories [again and again and again!].  I was particularly close to my maternal grandmother and paid tribute to her last year at this time.

This year, it's my other grandmother that I'm acknowledging.  She was also unique but more like an elderly woman who loved to bake cookies.  And that can be so good too!

Cheers to all the grandparents who have spent so many years loving and caring; nurturing and feeding; teaching and telling.  This is your day!

Are You a Redhead? Natural or a Wannabe?

Dear Diary:

Not too long ago, I was reading about an event where all the participants who were invited had to have red hair.  The only stipulation was it had to be natural.  Coloured or tinted hair was not invited to the party!  The organizers were hoping to foster a greater sense of community amongst the redheads and encouraged everyone to tell of their experiences growing up as a "ginger".

Sometimes people with red hair have been teased about their colouring and this shows up as a common thread throughout history.  Red hair was considered a sign that women sporting this hair colour were witches, in the 14th century.  Those women would be put to death without any other reason. Unknowingly at that time, it was genetics that gave natural redheads their pigmentation, inherited from an ancestor.  A parent may not have red hair but will pass that gene down to their children.  There have been articles stating that eventually red hair will be phased out of the genetic code but that has not been verified.

Since on an average, only 1-2% of the population have red hair, I thought I would look around my second world to see how many I could see with this colour hair.  Since we, in our second life, have a choice of our hair colouring, I envisioned more women choosing to be redheads.  However, I didn't find that many the day when I was looking, leading me to believe, on most days, the percentage is low in this world too.

I enlisted my two friends, Chloe and Sam, to help me with my quest.  I challenged them to pose with me, wearing any red hair they had in their closets.  I found a couple but only one that I felt comfortable wearing,  but I don't change my hair colour that much.  Chloe had more than I did as she often wears red, in particular a very bright, flaming red so she chose her favourite.  Sam is not much of a shopper so he only had one that he picked up as a gift.

It was an interesting experiment and I found that the variety in the reddish colour was limitless, everything from a bright orangey colour to a deep burgundy.

Think I'll try being a redhead more often.  Is it true redheads have more fun?

Good Night for now.

Labour Day is the Great White Way

Dear Diary:

I just finished some needed vacation [insert smile here] and it's running into a long weekend for me [insert BIG smile here].  Today is Labour Day in Canada, and is "an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers", so says Wikipedia, therefore I decided I should follow that dictate and do some work in the garden.

I'm digging up some baby potatoes.  They're so good with lots of butter and salt.

Hope you all enjoy your Labour Day.

It's The Week for The Wild, Wild West

Dear Diary:

It's nice to see The Twisted Colour Challenge pick a fall colour this week since it soon will be that season.  And yes, I had full intention of putting on a stylish fall outfit, a little warmer, more covered up but when I went to do this post today, the temperature outside was 34C (approximately 93F) with the humidex at 44C, over 100F, so I certainly didn't feel like putting on long pants and a sweater.  I decided to spray on the fake tan; haul out the bikini; and, dig out the sun hat one more time.

It's better than having to slather on the face cream; haul out the snow boots; and, dig out the toque!  And I know I'll be doing that soon enough.

Only 42 Groups??

Dear Diary:

As I sat out on the patio of my house last evening, I read Strawberry Singh's Monday Meme and it got me thinking about how many of my groups had come and gone in this world.  I remember it was hard limiting myself to joining only 25.  It seemed at first I was joining everything without thinking about it.  So I hauled out the diaries and reminisced.

1.Have you reached the 42 group limit?  As soon as it was allowed, I was there!

2.Do you do a lot of group hopping to keep up with all the groups you want to stay a part of?  I used to do that and still do occasionally but I think I've become more selective.

3.What makes you want to join a group?  The product has to appeal to me, no matter what it's selling.

4. A lot of store VIP groups have a group fee which you have to pay to join. How do you feel about paying group fees?  I don't agree with group fees but I can understand why the designer enforces them.  A lot of people join just to receive the group gift and then leave the group. [I confess I did that once but felt horribly guilty after so I went back to the store and joined again.]  And many creators have had their content stolen and re-sold by someone else.  Perhaps a fee would deter these people.  I have paid a fee to join a group but it was very small.  I'll only pay if I really like the items being offered and if the fee is not "over the top".

5. Name a few groups that you are a part of that you feel everyone should look into joining and share your reasons behind that.  Group selection is such a personal thing I would never try to influence anyone to join my groups, just because "I said so" but here are five that I belong to, that have super products and that I happen to have been attached to for awhile.  The designers are talented and produce high quality items.  I've tried to list groups from different areas to give an all-round view.
  • Gos Boutique: Love the shoes, feet and everything that goes with them.  The 10% discount for members is a great perk and the gift is always fantastic.
  • Maxi Gossamer Jewelry: Always new things coming out, often in packs.  Good variety of funky, chunky items with colour changing ability.
  • La Galleria: Fantastic homes in different sizes and prices.  Furniture is available in lots of styles.  Items are often sold for discount prices. Free gift comes out every few weeks.
  • Zanze:  Totally awesome clothing!  Styles are trendy or classic and often come with a colour HUD.  Colours can be vibrant or subdued.  A great variety.
  • LeLutka: Wear one of their skins most of the time.  Also have nice hair styles, clothing and makeup.  Group gifts are not as frequent as some but I do like their products.
That's my insight for today!

Good Night for now.

Preppy Violet for The Twisted Colour Challenge

Dear Diary:

When I was growing up, I was never accused of being "preppy".  To me, it meant following a certain lifestyle or clothing style and that's something I never did.

For interest, I checked to see what I would have to do to be preppy and found the following suggestion:

"To look preppy, you should dress clean-cut and classy. The preppy look is also having a positive attitude, always being happy. Have good manners and etiquette also helps."   [from Ask]

I'm really going to have to work on that!

In My Wine Cellar

Dear Diary:

The Twisted Colour Challenge this week is Wine Cellar as in -

My colours this week are a little off since in my wine cellar....er...rack in my case, I don't have the "full bodied red" as in the example.  I like white wine but don't care for  red as much.  Merlot is ok but I'm not one for the stronger tasting reds.  So I think I'm wearing more of a pink zinfandel and a sauvignon blanc.

Love for Donna Flora

Dear Diary:

I must admit, whenever I buy something from Donna Flora, I feel elegant....I feel sophisticated...I feel fashionable.  I've bought many things from Squinternet Larnia and her clothes always fit me without alterations.  Here's the latest purchases from her store.

I'm not one to take on personal causes to raise funds but I've had friends who have gone through breast cancer and I know how debilitating it can be.  Please send all your thoughts to Squint and hope for a quick recovery.

Evening Preserves is the Twisted Colour

Dear Diary:

I thought it was time for a bikini post.  Mainly because I'm dying for bikini-clad weather.

Summer in my part of the world has been not what I was expecting.  It's been cool and cloudy with a lot...and I mean A LOT...of rain.  It's lucky that in my other world it could be sunny every day of the year.

So the sun is shining, my tan is fabulous and I'm toasty warm wearing just my bikini.

O Rodvik, Rodvik! Wherefore Art Thou Rodvik?

Dear Diary:

I was out of town on vacation and saw that Berry was involving my beloved Rodvik Linden in a devilish scheme meme while I was away.  "Ha!", I mused.  "Little do all those other women know how loyal my man is.  He'll be sweeping me into his arms at the airport on my return."

I texted my Roddy: Am landing now.  Meet at gate 4.
His response: ok

I'm a little disappointed with his response.  Well...maybe he's tied up with buying me flowers for my return.

Hmm....he must have forgotten the gate number.  His memory is not the best.  He never remembers my name.

Where is he?  Can't believe my Sweetie isn't throwing himself at my feet right now.

Waiting....waiting....waiting.

Alright...that's it!  I'm heading down the escalator to get a taxi.  My poor Roddy seems to have been corrupted by the hundred others involved.  It's certainly not his fault.

Maybe I should rethink my tactics.

Good Night for now.

The Vibrance of Velvet Jazz

Dear Diary:

I never cared for jazz too much.  I just couldn't get into it.  Then I heard Pat Metheny, a guitarist who has been in the forefront of jazz greats for quite awhile and this year won a Grammy for best instrumental jazz album.  All of a sudden, I could appreciate the intricacies of the music.

A New Store to Me #7

Dear Diary:

The other day I came upon a store quite by accident and discovered a gem!

I've tried to take pictures for rainy day climate, using all the tricks and all the fancy gizmos to show rain but I'm not that clever and never seem to get the effects I wanted.  The store, Node+ , takes care of that.

nyagos Kidd is the owner of Node+ and he has umbrellas in a multitude of colours and textures, from 9 plain, 6 "plastic" looks; 6 plaid and several other textures.  The umbrella can be worn in the closed position when waiting for that inclement weather or open to produce either a drizzle or a heavy downpour.  It's so simple.

At first I thought the umbrella was a little pricey but in each pack you get 6 choices and the umbrella works well with poses.

In the store, there's also a weather system.  An item for putting rain on your windows is also available.

It's not a big store but very unique in it's offerings.

Good Night for now.

Dear Diary:

When I saw the title of the colour for the Challenge this week, I thought to myself, "Could I ever be sweet?"  "Not likely," I whispered.  So...I put on a low cut sweater; added some cool shades; and plumped up the lips with a funky paint....and voila!  How sweet is that!

Hanging Clothes on the Line

Dear Diary:

I really like to hang my clothes outside on the line.  My Mom did it; my Grandmother did; and probably everybody else in our neighbourhood.

The other morning I wanted to hang sheets outside before I went to work.  But when I stepped outside the door, I looked up in the sky to see a very overcast atmosphere.  I was debating even putting the laundry out, in case I would come home from work and find them more sopping than when I took them from the washer.  Would they even dry in such dull humid weather? But by afternoon it had heated up.

There's nothing like bringing the sheets in, putting them on the bed and sleeping with the fresh-air smell.  I seem to sleep so much better.

In my second world, rain was also in the forecast.  I went to The Far Away,
A M Radio's wonderful sim to hang the sheets but the sky there also looked foreboding.

The sun was shining when I got there but then I noticed darker clouds on the horizon.  I wanted to check to see if everything was dry so I could take it all in before the rain started...just like in my first world!

Good Night for now.

I Fear That I Won't Be Heard

Dear Diary:

Berry's meme this Monday was so intriguing that I wanted to join in.  What am I afraid of?  What am I haunted by? Well, I'm not afraid of very much at all.  I like cemeteries; I've had pet snakes; and I can look down from high places.  I'm a bit claustrophobic.  Crawling on my hands and knees through a tunnel in Mexico got me sweating profusely and it certainly wasn't the weather.  So I was thinking hard about what would give me have a lot of fear.  Then I remembered...

A few years back I read "Still Life", a book by Joy Fielding.  It's about a young woman, thrown into a coma through an accident.  She hears and comprehends everything that her friends and family say and they are oblivious to the fact she is listening to all the conversations.  She just can't communicate or move.  There's the idea her family may take her off life support as they don't think her brain is functioning.  I remember my heart pounding as I read her frustration.  What if that were me?

THAT'S what my fear is.

Good Night for now.

When I put this outfit together for the Twisted Colour Challenge, tennis came to mind so I followed through with that thought.  I'm not sure these colours would be permitted at Wimbledon although the Williams sisters have sure made tennis clothing very trendy.

Happy Canada Day! Happy July 4th!

Dear Diary:

Happy birthday Canada!  Happy Independence Day U.S.A!

Every year at this time, I put on this tee.  Of course I celebrate Canada Day on July 1st in all the usual ways - roasted wieners over the bonfire; toasted-to-perfection marshmallows; and lots of potato salad.  It's a great day to spend with friends and family.

But I do have relatives and friends who are Americans and only a few days later on July 4th, they will celebrate Independence Day.  How appropriate that the logo on the front of this shirt is a joint effort of our two flags.

So however you choose to enjoy these days, in whatever country you are in, have a wonderful holiday.

Good Night for now.
