Dear Diary:
Blue is my least favourite colour. Have I said that before? But out of the whole blue colour spectrum, navy and royal blue are the two I really like and have a lot of those shades in my closet.
I remember hearing that royal blue was chosen as one of the original web colours.
Yep...I love this colour.

Cinnamon Turns HOTTTTT!
Dear Diary:
A few years ago, there was an article circulating through email about the benefits of cinnamon. It mentioned that for breakfast, spread liquid honey on your toast and then sprinkle a generous amount of cinnamon over it. Supposedly, the combination was not only beneficial to your overall health but it was to lower your blood pressure too.
When I put on this dress, the man of my life said it definitely raised his.
Good Night for now.

What a Perfect Shade of Red for July 1st!
Dear Diary:
Yes, today is a national holiday for Canada. This day was called Dominion Day but since the 80's, it's been officially known as Canada Day.
Cadmium Red is great for the Colour Challenge this week because this red is represented in our flag. I'm sure Luna had all us Canadians in mind when she picked this shade of red for today. Thanks Luna.
You can be assured I'll be stuffing my face today with all the potato salad, cole slaw, and hot sausages that I can get my hands on. And...oh...yes...something malty to wash it all down.
Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian friends! Enjoy!

Pistachio Makes me Feel Peppy...or Preppy?
Dear Diary:
I always loved pistachios. They have a mild and kind of sweet flavour. When I was a kid, my Mom would buy them for me but I remembered them being a bright pinkish red. I found out later that the nuts were dyed that colour to cover any blemishes. I think I like them better natural. And I don't think that red dye was probably good for you.
Pistachios are so versatile. They can be used when making sweet things, such as cookies and ice cream or in main dishes, particularly in Mediterranean or Indian cooking.

The Pushy Thistle
Dear Diary:
I love my garden. I love working in the earth and introducing new plants to the old ones. But when I planted a Globe thistle, depicted to be "decorative", acknowledged to be eye catching, and promising not to be invasive, I got quite a surprise. The plant literally took over! Years later, I'm still digging out the roots.
Pushy though it was, the thistle was showy and a lovely colour and certainly made itself known in the garden.

Canada's Official Tartan
Dear Diary:
The Canadian government has designated the Maple Leaf tartan to be the national tartan and an official symbol of the nation.
The tartan was designed in 1964, the red, green and gold representing the shifting colours of autumn leaves. The tartan has been worn by Canadians for years as an "unofficial" symbol but now with raising it to "official", it will join the flag, the coat of arms and the beaver as emblems of Canada. I have a Scottish background and am very proud that we now have a tartan representing the contribution that our Scottish ancestors have given to our country.
I decided to visit a Canadian sim that represents my part of Canada, although I don't really live in wilderness. Naturally I dressed in a "plaid" dress.
I decided to visit a Canadian sim that represents my part of Canada, although I don't really live in wilderness. Naturally I dressed in a "plaid" dress.
I stood on the suspension bridge as it was swinging back and forth...my tummy was doing flip-flops.
It was great to make it across safely!
I'm so proud that Canada has made the Maple Leaf tartan part of the official emblems. I guess I'd better dig out my great grandfather's bag pipes.

Buying a new house
Dear Diary:
Since coming to this world, I have lived in an apartment, moved to a condo, rented a two story "box", and when that sim closed, moved to a villa, a beach house and finally a brownstone. I was talking to my friend Chloe, and since she lives in a huge house, she convinced me it was time to buy my own house - with her advice of course.
She went to Ramos' prefabs to scout out the possibilites.
Their houses are really great! There's a wide variety of styles and sizes and they're furnished with Ramos' lovely furniture to give you an idea of how they look when they're lived in. Ramos also offer some extras with their homes like lighting, security and a $500 gift certificate towards purchases from their store.
While Chloe was busy, I went to Mudhoney.
The houses here could be rezzed so that I could walk in and see the actual size. You could also purchase a footprint at no cost to see if it could fit on the land. The colours and details in each building were awesome. I particularly loved the large windows.
I met Chloe at La Galleria. There's an amazing number of house sizes to choose from with quite a low prim count for each.
The houses here are furnished too and I must admit that adds to the ambiance when looking for a place. La Galleria offers a discount on kitchen or bathroom fixtures when you buy a house from them.
I have to think long and hard about all of the wonderful places I saw. The decision is going to be very difficult to make.
Good Night for now.

Tip-Top for Taupe!
Dear Diary:
Taupe is one of my favourite colours. I certainly have enough of it in one of my closets - sweaters, pants, a jacket or two, and of course, shoes. It's funny though, because everyone of those "taupes" are slightly different in hue.
I searched the online encylopedia for a description but it referred me to a Swiss tenor from the early 1900's. I went to the Encyclopaedia Britannica (online) but this was the message they gave me. "Sorry, we were unable to find an exact match for taupe. Here are results using alternate spellings and phrases. You may also try rephrasing your query." One more "educational" try - but that one had so much advertising, I couldn't even find the search bar. So I just had to try on my own.
Taupe certainly covers a wide range of shades. I looked for a colour palette and this is one that I got. It does show a huge range of colour. I wasn't sure that some of the colours should be considered in the taupe category. I had to look further.
Martha Stewart suggests taupe is a "perfect wedding color". In this article she calls taupe "sandy". I think that's a good description from the picture.
I finally decided to try Wikipedia (even though I hate to rely on this website). It did offer the largest coverage and my curiosity was satisfied.
So here is my take on taupe for the 52 Week of Color Challenge. I love this colour...I love this dress.

Yes, Sienna is a challenge
Dear Diary:
Sienna...as in minivan? Sienna...as in Miller, the actress? Or is it Sienna ...as in Italy? Nope! It was none of those. It's Sienna... as in colour for the weekly colour challenge.
I love sienna. I like all of the brown tones and lean towards that colour when I go shopping for clothes but when I looked in my closet, I found nothing labelled "sienna". I ended up trying on just about everything designated as "brown" to see if [in my mind] it fit into the category for the particular shade. I finally decided on the dress that I think fits the category.
This dress is by one of my favourite dress designers, Fnzo Takacs of Cover Girl. I love the lace detail on her dresses. The skirts always stay together when you sit and her designs look so elegant any place you go.

Thinking of all the good things in my Second Life.
Dear Diary:
The other day I realized that this year was coming to an end. Where did the time go to? When did the days go by so fast? Why didn't I realize that everything was whizzing by? It was time to sit in my favourite chair and think about the year that passed me by.
This was a very exciting year for me. I met some new friends who will always be close to me. They're fun and always ready to go some place new. I've seen some great live musicians who are very talented and give their audiences their best. I've visited some truly amazing sites - ones that put me in awe of their creators who have the imagination to be able to put their dreams into production.
The presents that have been sent my way have been truly amazing. I've received some awesome gifts from clothes designers, who manage to keep me in satin and furs; from jewelry makers who decorate me in diamonds and pearls; and to hair entrepreneurs who enable me to change my look at my every whim. I'm a shoe fanatic and have hundreds in my inventory from stilettos to runners, from boots to sandals. And who can pass up the skin makers who give me that flawless, unlined face.
The furniture originators make my house look like it came from Architectural Digest with only the latest in design. I'm able to dance like a pro; stand like a diva and walk like a model all because talented people know how to make poses that mirror human movement. It amazes me at all this talent that has made my second life so exciting.
And of course, I'm thrilled that I have you, you who read my ramblings and rantings. I've learned a lot in the few months that I've been writing my diary and I expect to learn more in the new year. I'm really looking forward to that!
Many thanks to all of you for what you've given me this past year. Thank you for the best Second Life.
Good Night for now.

"Dress for the Cause" on Friday, October 15th, 2010
Dear Diary:October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month . All women and men should be aware of current information about this disease.
Applonia Criss, the designer for ChantKare, has given out a beautiful pink dress to her group members to bring breast cancer awareness to the forefront.
In 2010, in Canada, approximately 23,200 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. On the average, 445 women will be diagnosed every week. We need to take a proactive position to bring this disease to an end.
Practice self examination regularly at home.
Visit your doctor for scheduled exams and follow-up mammo-
grams.
Be aware of support services offered to those who have just been diagnosed or to those who are the care givers.
As women, we know that breast cancer is the most common cancer for us. The National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation both provide educational programs for patients and survivors or anyone touched by this disease. Your donations to either Foundation, provide free mammograms for patients who can't afford the test. It's time to have control over this cancer and out lives.
On Friday, October 15th, 2010, show your support for breast cancer patients, survivors and researchers by participating in "Dress for the Cause". On that day wear the traditional pink ribbon, put on your favourite pink outfit and donate to a foundation whether it be national or local. Let's beat this together!!
Good Night for now.
