A June Wedding is So Romantic

I always wanted to wear a wedding gown in my second world.  Oh yes, I've been partnered but never seem to get around to the actual "ceremony".  It got me thinking that I would like to do a post wearing a wonderfully romantic creation.  After all, June is THE month for tying the knot.

So when I received this beautifully constructed and elegantly assembled '30's wedding gown as a group gift, I wanted to take a picture right away.

Scoping Out The Vintage Fair Was Fab!

Dear Diary:

Everyone knows I love era clothes so I always make an effort to visit the Vintage Fair when it comes to town.  This year I went ape!

I have a picture of my Grandmother wearing a twirly skirt with lots of crinolines underneath and sporting a beehive, the hair style of choice during the early 60's, along with the blue eyeshadow and pink lipstick.  I found the perfect outfit to copy the look.

I was freaking out when I flew into the Fair.  I just went ape over all the things I could buy.  I had to peel out in the caddy before my scratch was zilch.  This required a pic but it looks like I'm on the make.  Outta sight! 

Don't have a cow if you haven't visited the Vintage Fair yet!  There's a few days left.

Thinking About Humanity

Dear Diary:

We are human.  We display human traits.  But after the events in Florida last week, the idea of humanity made me think. 

By dictionary version, humanity means "the quality or state of being human; and, the quality or state of being kind to other people or to animals".  Can this be true?  Are we kind?  Right now, it doesn't seem an honest evaluation.  And yet we bond together in times of tragedy or conflict.  We support each other and are able to empathize with someone in need.  Why can't we be like this at all times?  Why can't we treat each other with graciousness constantly?

Acceptance is difficult for a few.  Lifestyles differ and some don't have the flexibility to acknowledge that humans are not all the same.  This ignorance turns into bigotry, turns into intolerance and then to hatred.  What makes us be so egotistical that we think we have to be all the same?  And that we have to punish those of us that are different?

As humans we share many similarities.  Let's turn that sameness into positive acceptance.

My thoughts are with the survivors and families left without their loved ones.

I'm Off To A Conference

Dear Diary:

I enjoy going to conferences.  I always receive a lot of new information.  So next week I'm off to listen and learn.

The workshops I can pick, cover a wide variety of topics and never bore me.  The guest speakers are very informative and manage to put a new spin on data.  But where I get most of my tips and knowledge is after the sessions, at night, over a lovely dinner.

It seems my colleagues enjoy talking over good food and a nice glass of wine.

Just Where Are Those Fish?

Dear Diary:

Last weekend, in my first world, I went fishing with some friends.  I enjoy going out in the boat on a sunny day - not too hot; not too cold - and trying to bring in a fish or two for my supper, or ideally for a shore lunch.  This time, I was unsuccessful but I thought my second world might prove to be more fruitful.   errr...fishful!

Patience is certainly required when trying to land that "big" one.  Even the sea gulls are aware of that.

Towel Day Alert! Where Are You?

Dear Diary:

Towel Day 2016 has arrived and this year I decided to wear my towel to the moon.  

Every year on May 25th, Towel Day is celebrated in honour of Douglas Adams, the author of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".

Why is the towel assumed to be a significant item for Adams fans?  In the third chapter of the book, it's stated that a towel is the " most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have".  The towel not only provides warmth but protects one from the "noxious fumes" of the galaxy. 

Every year, Uccie Poultry, the owner of PoP Shop on Marketplace, generously puts out a FREE towel for all to wear on May 25th or any other day for that matter.  Pick yours up here for yourself or here for your man and wear your towel with pride!

It's A Long Weekend For Me

Dear Diary:

Monday is a holiday for me.  On May 23rd, Canada celebrates Queen Victoria's birthday, as Victoria Day.  Although the holiday is actually May 24th, it's celebrated on the closest Monday to give everyone a long weekend.

Traditionally it's also time to open up the camp/cottage for the summer season.  Many people jokingly call it the "May two-four weekend", in reference to the actual holiday on May 24, and to the case of 24 bottles of beer needed for fortitude, to open up the camp and plan for the up coming onslaught of black flies. 

On this weekend, we get together with friends and family for a BBQ, bonfire and fireworks. So I decided I should observe this weekend in my second life too.

I invited my two closest friends, Chloe and Sam, over to my home in the tropics, for a BBQ and some cool drinks.  Sometimes the weather doesn't co-operate but this year everything is progressing smoothly.  My friends seem to enjoy sitting in the shade while I sweat over at hot grill.  Seems normal!

Time To Reconnect

Dear Diary:

This past January on her blog, Strawberry Singh posted several resolutions that we could try and follow over 2016.  On that note, I'm picking another that I think is a good one to accomplish.  It's to try and reconnect with people that have fallen away from any contact.

I have a good group of friends that have been on my list for a few years.  We see each other often and will share an email or two when not in world.  There were 3 friends that were very much a part of this group but they fell off the grid so it was up to me to try and reconnect.  I sent messages to each of them hoping to get something back.  

At this point I've heard from one.  She is very active in Second Life but not as I knew her.  She has an alt that has become more of her life than the person I knew.  But...we reconnected!

Earth Day In 2016

Dear Diary:

This year, Earth Day is focusing on the global forest.  We need to restore our forests to better health.  By planting trees, we are helping to promote clean air for our planet and provide an aid for climate change.

Earth Day is approaching its 50 year anniversary so goals have been set over the next five years in anticipation of the celebration.  The first goal is to plant over 7 billion trees on earth to help maintain a good balance on our planet.  

Today over 150 world leaders will sign The Paris Agreement at the United Nations in New York.  Finally Canada is taking a active part in improving our environment.  From 10am to 1pm EST today, you can watch the live opening and signing here.

Dear Diary:

When Berry put out her Monday Meme about our social media interests, I had to try and think about my involvement for Dreamer.  In my first world, I joined several media networks when they first came out - Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter especially - but I slowly lost interest over the past few years.  I still have accounts but rarely log in. Because my first life doesn't capture interest in social media, I don't involve Dreamer too much either.  

So, in my second life, I'm not involved with many social media networks.  My list is small:

The Dancing Challenge..and ...yes ... CHALLENGE!

Dear Diary:

Well, I've never done a video before but with the dancing challenge this week I thought I might tackle it.  I did have some extra time and it was a good thing.  It took me all week to accomplish 30 sec of careening around a dance floor.

I learned a lot.  I filmed a few...deleted many.  Edited a couple....added things to two. Published one....deleted one.  Tried the "fancies"...lost the core video.  And the result for the first attempt was not exactly as planned but then that would have taken another week of ups and downs.  So...

Thanks to Strawberry Singh for suggesting this and I hope we do more videos since I think I can do better next time.  A special thanks to Caitlin Tobias who provided tips and tricks  for making videos and by reading and re-reading her post several thousand times, it gave me confidence to try this.

World Autism Awareness Day on April 2

Dear Diary:

Autism Spectum Disorder is a condition present in childhood but diagnosis can easily be missed.  Children have difficulty communicating and forming relationships with others.  Sometimes autism is not understood by society and having an awareness day educates people.

Jig-saw puzzle pieces often are used as a logo for autism.  This could be because autism is puzzling and there are many factions to the disorder.  It is believed that autism can be a genetic problem but other scientists say heredity should also be considered.  If a child is diagnosed early enough, behavioural programs can provide confidence to achieve a productive life.

Several prominent people were autistic, including Mozart, Charles Darwin, and Einstein.  All exhibited signs of autistic behaviour but all went on to be well known, with hugely successful lives.

There are several groups in Second Life that are supportive of autism.  I visited Club Accessible this morning.  Everyone was very friendly.  Fly out for a dance, a cup of coffee or just to talk.  You'll enjoy your time there.

Strawberry Singh posted a Monday Meme this week and I'm so happy she's thinking of doing her memes again.  But after just reading the first couple of questions, I was overcome with the thought that I better seek absolution before answering and putting it all into print.  

1. Never have I ever had sex, in Second Life. - Yes I have. I'm guilty - on several occasions.

2. Never have I ever visited a sex sim, in Second Life. - I have. Not recently but a few years back.  I don't even remember the name of the sim but I did make a few  lots of visits.

3. Never have I ever been an escort or stripper, in Second Life. - Never.  I did pose nude for an art presentation that was broadcast into the real world but that was it.

4. Never have I ever been in porn videos in Second Life. - Never.  I have been in lots of videos filmed in Second Life but none have been porn.

5. Never have I ever done things that may be illegal in the real world, in Second Life. - Yep.  I have.  Admitting to all illegal activities. **phoning my lawyer**

6. Never have I ever created an ALT for secret activities, in Second Life. - Oh yeah. I created one for spying on some friends.  I don't use her any more and I felt creepy doing it so I shelved her.

7. Never have I ever had a one night stand, in Second Life. - I have...and I have...and I...well you know.

8. Never have I ever been part of a roleplay community, in Second Life. - Never.  Just recently a friend suggested one that sounded interesting but I haven't tried it yet.

9. Never have I ever discovered a new fetish, because of Second Life. - Never.  Guess I have enough of my own.

10. Never have I ever done things in Second Life that I wouldn't admit to my friends or family. - I have.  None of my friends or family even know about my Second Life.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Dear Diary:

I'm not Irish but I do appreciate the Irish culture.  Many others also celebrate St. Patrick's Day in their way too.  Chicago dyes the river green; parades take place from Boston to New Orleans; and popular food, like corn beef and cabbage or shepherd's pie, is consumed for lots of suppers.  I always like to celebrate on March 17 by having Irish stew accompanied by a Guinness.  My mouth is watering right now.  And of course since green is my favourite colour, I have to wear something of that hue.

Hopscotching Into Daylight Savings Time

Dear Diary:

When I was a kid, my friends and I loved to play hopscotch.  We would draw the hopscotch form with chalk on the sidewalk in front of my house, pick up a couple of stones and play for hours.  So when I saw this hopscotch game at The Secret Room, I just had to play it.

We drew our hopscotch a bit differently in my day but the objective of the game seems to be the same.  We each had our favourite stone to throw into the square and when the rain washed away the form, we drew another.  It was great fun in the neighbourhood.

As I was hopping around today, trying to get a good picture, I thought I looked like I was "springing" from square to square.  That brought to mind that tonight I had to move the clocks ahead an hour.  So remember that we lose an hour of sleep tonight. No hopping around tomorrow.
