Movember is the New November

Dear Diary:

November is Movember for sure!  Of course during the month of November, all the men in my life are growing - or trying to grow - moustaches.  Sometimes, it's an effort.  But it's definitely for a good cause.

There is always a lot of events concerning women's health (as in the pink ribbon campaign) but little about men's cancer, so the Movember celebration hopes to bring more attention to the well-being of men.  Topics involve prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.

My friend, Sam, sprouted a moustache in our second world and I did too as support for him.  I think mine was easier to grow!  After trimming his 'stache, I started on his hair which made him a bit nervous.

To find out how your man can become a "MoBro", or to learn how you can help or to donate to the foundation, here is the website in Canada  and in the United States.

A Time of Remembrance

Dear Diary:

In Flanders' fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders' fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high,
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders' Fields.

A Different Hallowe'en Visit

Dear Diary:

As a kid, I was always scared when I went out on Hallowe'en.  Lots of my friends loved it and dressed up in the scariest, grossest, awfulest costume that they could get.  I went more for the fantasy, girly type.

One of my favourite places to visit is the Meta Body display.  I've quite a few bodies from that place so I decided to dress up for Hallowe'en this year wearing one of the displays.  It's the type of costume I like and the great part is they are all free.

Meta Body is an interesting project to visit.  There are four levels to look at, and all are spectacular in their depiction.

Here I'm in the silver avatar at Level 3, a futuristic city with turning objects and a outside railway.

Fly out for a visit.  You'll enjoy it.

Good Night for now.

Taking A Walk In An Autumn Locale

Dear Diary:

It's getting on to the end of October so the gorgeous coloured trees in my area have faded a bit.  A lot have fallen to the ground.  That's provided hours of entertainment for the kids...and more work for parents who are trying to clean up their yards.  I'm afraid my walks through the woods are coming to an end.

In my second world, I was looking for a location that would duplicate the bright, vivid colours that are disappearing quickly for me.  And I found it!!

The sim, appropriately named, is Beautiful.

This sim is true to its name.  For me, the trees reflect my own surroundings.  I don't have a lot of red in leaf colouring but the yellows and oranges are brilliant.  Hats off to Inkie Loudwater for creating this place.  I almost think she did it for me but I know lots of other people enjoy it too.

Visit this wonderful location and experience a walk through a tunnel of colour.

Good Night for now.

Yesterday Was Global HandWashing Day

Dear Diary:

October 15th marked the day dedicated to handwashing.  It seems strange to have a day devoted to that but the original organizers hoped to achieve world-wide acceptance of this practice in an effort to slow down major infections.

It was started in 2008 at a conference of World Water Week.  The program hoped to motivate people around the world to wash their hands with soap and water as it has shown that this simple task eliminates much of the bacteria causing respiratory diseases or other infections.  Originally it was meant to focus on children to reduce infant mortality but it now encompasses all age groups.

This year, more than 70 countries will have participated in promoting this day.

Good Night for now.

Happy Thanksgiving Canada

Dear Diary:

As I'm cooking my turkey, I'm looking out the window at a brilliantly blue sky framing yellow and red leaves of the trees in my back yard.  My mind is happy and I think of all the things I'm so thankful for on this Canadian holiday.

Of course, after a big turkey dinner with all of the extras, my friends and I try to stuff in a "small" piece of pumpkin pie with whipped cream on top.  Soooo good!!

Think of things that you're thankful for at this time.  Have a wonderful day with family and friends.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Good Night for now.

What's Up With Computer Glasses?

Dear Diary:

I don't own any type of computer glasses but I do have a friend that does.  He was a big fan when they first came out and vowed it was the greatest piece of technology to be invented.  He told me that Time Magazine recognized Google Glasses as the best invention of 2012.

I had some negative feelings when they first appeared.  How about having a relaxing lunch out, when your friend has this head set on, obviously not paying attention to you?  What about the impact of driving while wearing this device?  There's a lot to consider.  But....

Now there's the coming event of the iwatch.  My friend declares that THAT will be the best invention ever.  The computer glasses are in his drawer.

A New Store to Me #11

Dear Diary:

When I visited The Instruments event last month, I picked up a cute dress from Sundaara Designs.  I wasn't familiar with the store so I decided to fly over to see what was there.  I was thrilled by what I saw.

Of course I had to buy!  These are a couple of dresses from my visit.

Sundaara Designs displays a good variety of casual but classy dresses.  The formal gowns are lovely and have a good range of colours and styles.  I loved the casual dresses that came in bright colour tones that were a little retro in their look.  Of course a few dresses are quite trendy, come in black and white, and would be great for a photo shoot for high-end modelling.  All the items are very reasonably priced so you can add lots to your inventory with little impact on your bank account.

I was truly impressed by the styles that were displayed.  Demos are available.  Everything is displayed well and it's easy to walk around and view the items.

It's definitely a place to pick up a dress for any occasion so fly in for a look.  I know I'll be back for sure.

Good Night for now.

The Death Meme

Dear Diary:

I liked being a corpse in the meme last spring but this Death Meme made me really think.  I was alive for this one.

  1. Do you ever think about dying? How do you expect you’ll die?  I don't really think about dying a lot.  I know it's going to happen eventually but I don't plan on it happening soon.  I expect to pass on as a very old, crochety lady.
  2. Do you believe in an afterlife? If so, how do you visualize it? No, I don't believe in afterlife.  I do believe that heaven - and hell - is right here with us.  Somedays it's the most beautiful, wonderful place to be and when I have to shovel three feet of snow at -40C at 6 in the morning...well...you know where I am.
  3. What is your preferred form of apocalypse and why? Apocalypse?  Wow!  I only hope that whatever hits me, it will be fast and permanent.
  4. How many times have you cheated death so far?  Only once that I know of.  At three, I had a serious illness that should have resulted in death.  But if I survived, I would be handicapped physically and mentally.  Although my friends think I do have a mental defiency, I came through it without any problem.
  5. Which fictional villain would you be okay being killed by?   I would choose Professor Moriarity from Sherlock Holmes.  To me, he's like a spider in the middle of a web.  He's smart, clever and thinks everything out before he strikes.  And...oh...if I can't come back to make him miserable (as the next question relates), I know that Sherlock Holmes will catch him for me.
  6. If you’re murdered, do you stay and haunt the culprits forever or do you give up that opportunity to leave and go to heaven/hell/Cancun?  I would not go peacefully.  I would have to hunt that sucker down.
  7. Will you have done everything you have wanted by the time you die?  OMG...NO!!!!  There's something new that comes along every day.  I won't have accomplished even a bit of what I want to do.
Well, after thinking about death for the last two days, I'm going to add to my bucket list.

Good Night for now.

Ushering in the Fall Season

Dear Diary:

Tomorrow marks the first day of the autumn season and an occasion where night and day are almost equal in length.

Usually in my part of the world, the change in the weather, from warm to cool, is a good indicator that the fall season has begun.  It's a great time to have a bonfire on a chilly night.  Deciduous trees are starting to turn colour and the country looks like it's painted in shades of yellow, orange and red.  Fall is a time to be outside and enjoy the surroundings,

It is getting darker earlier and earlier so that's one thing I don't like about Fall.  However, the new harvest of apples provides delicious eating; pumpkins foretell the coming of Thanksgiving and Hallowe'en; and kids are back at school.  Oh yeah....let's not forget the "fall line-up" of new television shows!

Yep.  Autumn is an amazing time of year.

Up In Space...Or Here On Earth?

Dear Diary:

I've always been interested in space.  No, I'm not one of those thrill seekers who want to jump on the nearest rocket but I believe we aren't the only "beings" around.  With the renewed interest in alien communication and the unsolved 6EQUJ5, I've become more intent on reading the space news.

Consequently when I found this quiz, "What kind of alien are you?" I decided to try it and see what I would be.  I turned out to be a Grey Alien.  The message given to me at the end was, "You're intelligent and endlessly curious, but also quite aloof and mysterious. You're shy and tend to avoid the spotlight"  Could that be how grey aliens are?

A grey alien, named for its skin colour, is described as having a small stature, large eyes and big head.

In 1947, a space craft attributed to grey aliens crashed in Roswell, New Mexico and witnesses supposedly saw bodies of the grey aliens that were then taken for autopsy.  That was never proven.  There have been many television programs and movies featuring fictional grey aliens but there have been testimonials from a few people who claim to have been abducted by the greys.

Ufologist will continue to search for communication from space and when they do, I'll be listening.

Good Night for now.

The Hardest Job in the World

Dear Diary:

A friend of mine has a teenage daughter who has just returned to high school for a new semester.  She's been looking for a part time job to make some money to be able to afford all the "items" that a teenager absolutely has to have!  I asked her what kind of work was she looking for.  She told me that she was considering accepting a position with one of the local restaurants.  She thought the pay, plus HUGE tips, would allow her to buy all the things she wanted.  I yelled, "OMG!!!  That's the hardest job in the world."  I worked as a waitress one summer when I was in school.

As a waitress, I took the brunt of all the complaints - the steak wasn't cooked enough / the steak was cooked too much; the soup was too hot / the soup was cold; there wasn't enough salad dressing / there was too much salad dressing.  Whatever  the complaint, it was always the waitress' fault.  And of course, not everybody left a tip.

I have a great respect for women who work in this service field.  It truly is the hardest job in the world.

This Is Why It's Hard Coming Back From Vacation

Dear Diary:

I had a wonderful relaxing vacation just as I planned.  Drank too much and ate too much.  I stopped in at a wonderful restaurant serving Italian food so here's why it's difficult to get back to "normal".

At the landing point, there's a sign and a welcome note.
After you enter the restaurant and take your seat, you're presented with the menu and are asked to select one item from each category.  I love Italian food so I picked things I would normally order in an Italian restaurant.
You can reset the menu to change your selections.  When you place your order, you receive a place setting with the suggestion that you imagine eating this delicious meal then stand when you're finished.  You receive a message giving you the calorie count for the meal.
Upon arriving at the Fitness Club, I got the notice of how I could burn off the calories.

Even though there were some keen women in the gym, I decided to forgo the exercise until another time.  It was a fun experience and I definitely will go back and try again when the menu changes.

Good Night for now.

It's a Relaxing Vacation for Me!

Dear Diary:

"A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken."
(James Dent)

It's vacation time for me.  I've been looking forward to having a little R&R since my last time off.  I usually take a trip but I did go away in March so I thought I would just stay at home.  Of course, being the type A personality that I am, I have a definite agenda to rigidly follow.

I'll start off the day by thinking of what I have to do...
...followed by some intensive exercising of biceps and forearms...

...accompanied by staying hydrated after the workout on a hot day...
...culminating in a reprieve from the exhaustive schedule I just completed.

Guess I'll have to go back to work just to get some rest.

I'll see you in a couple of weeks.

I Love This Summer Weather

Dear Diary:

Last January all I could think of was summer - hot sun, hot sand, and cool swimming.  My wish came true.  The temperature this past weekend was 34C (in the 90's) so I gathered my friends and we hit the beach.

We went to the beach in the Fotoscape location.  There are several opportunities for picture taking.  Beach chairs are available and if you're a member of this group, you can rez some of your own items for added props.

I'll remember this day the first time I put the snow shovel in my hands.

Wildlife Can Be Dangerous When You're Driving

Dear Diary:

In my part of Canada, the moose is a magnificent looking animal.  He's not pretty or cute but he is very unique.  He can also be dangerous at various times of the year, usually in the fall, around mating season.  However, lately there's been a warning that moose are coming out of the bush onto roads causing lots of car accidents.  Why? Because of the mosquitoes and black flies!

The summer weather has been very wet this year, with rain several times during the week.  Ordinarily by this time, when hot weather is prevalent, those pesky insects are gone.  Still flying around now, the flies are bothering the moose so they're coming out of the bush.

Most moose are found in Canada, with an estimate of a million animals.  The moose live in the boreal forests of the north where there are cooler temperatures.  They are good swimmers so live near marshes or river banks.  Being plant eaters, moose get their food from new tree shoots or from aquatic plants.  Due to a remarkable and complex mouth and nose, they are the only members of the deer family that can eat under water.

On average, an adult moose can stand roughly 2 metres (6 feet) at the shoulder and weigh as much as 360 kg (about 800 lb) so when a car and a moose collide, it can be lethal.  Seatbelts or air bags don't offer much support.  Most drivers try to avoid hitting this animal, by running their car off the road themselves.

I've never had an accident with a moose but one has run along side of my car.  When looking out the side window, I could only see legs running along with me.  A little intimidating for sure!

Stay safe on the highway.

I'm A Bad Girl Gone Good

Dear Diary:

Last week, I, along with most of my friends in my second world, took a trip to Hair Fair.  While we were having a blast trying on all the demos, I looked across at my friend Kiki and gasped, "Where did you get that hair?  I HAVE to know!!".  The look instantly took me back to my early "anti-establishment" days in my real world, and I knew I had to buy that hair.

This was exactly how I looked.  My hair was shaved and bleached blonde with black streaks.  It was a bit more spiky but close enough.  The tats were not as evident; the piercings were not so few but this look was me for sure.  It brought back thoughts of those years of rebellion.  It made me laugh when I pictured myself as I used to be.  Who would have thought?

Thanks for the memories.

Thinking About my Hidden Secrets

Dear Diary:

No one knows I have a second life.

No one knows who I am in my second world.

No one knows who I am on this blog.

Oh yes.  I have secrets.  But why?  Do you know?

I think the majority of my friends or family could not understand why I'm in this world.  I'm sure it would be difficult for them to comprehend how I could have a lovely home, an interesting career and a great variety of friends that I truly cherish, and all belong in a virtual world.  That idea is a hard concept for some of the older members in my family...and maybe some of the younger ones too!

My friends in this second world really are important to me but I haven't told any of them who I am in real life.  I've given them a name but it's only partially right.  I've given them a location of where I live but that's only half true.  I haven't shared very much of my personal life.  My real identity is still unknown.

The worst secret is that I'm writing this blog, something that I love accomplishing and no one in my first world or my second world knows that I'm doing this.  I like what I'm writing and proud of the things I produce.  But I'm not sharing it with anyone, in any world.

Sometimes it baffles me why I keep these secrets.  Sometimes I want to blurt out everything.  Sometimes I would like to share but...

I don't.

A New Store to Me #10

Dear Diary:

I discovered a new store to me the other day and was very excited at some of the things I saw.  The store is called Vitrimi.

I bought this dress thinking it would be perfect for an afternoon garden tea.  It comes in 5 colours - white, red or beige with black trim and black or navy with white trim.  I chose the navy since I had a fascinator that I was dying to wear.  I knew it would be perfect with a navy dress.

Vitrimi offers a lovely selection of dresses.  Some are quite sexy while others offer a lot of cover.  The colours and patterns are abundant.  The casual section has different types of pants and a variety of tops to mix and match.  I made a quick return visit yesterday and saw that Vitrimi is now offering clutch purses and a small selection of shoes compatible with Slink feet.  On the whole, I was impressed with what the store is offering.

The store has a second floor but no inventory is available there yet.

Right now the group list is relatively small so there is no fee for joining.  Even though you have to pay $1L for the group gifts, you receive very generous fatpacks of the item.  The newest gift is an outfit with 4 dfferent patterned skater girl skirts and a pop top in black or white.  The other group gifts are still offered in the store.

This is a very nice place to shop.  It's easy to see the merchandise and the items are displayed very well.  Fly on over and take a peek at Vitrimi.

A Trip to Summerfest 14

Dear Diary:

It was a beautiful weekend in both my worlds so I decided to take a quick run to Summerfest 14.  I had been early on but the crowds were so big that I had a hard time getting around.  This time it was perfect!

I picked up this bikini from Nylon Outfitters that came in so many colours, it was hard to choose.  The price was right so I picked up a couple of them.  This one went well with my mask and flippers.  Now, out to the beach!

The swimming was great once the water calmed down.

Only a week left to visit Summerfest for some terrific buys.

Happy Birthday Canada!

Dear Diary:

Canada ranks as the second largest country in the world.  Canada has the longest coastline in the world at 243,792 km.  And Canadian Joe Shuster co-created Superman for DC Comics.   These were three facts about Canada that I didn't know.

July 1st marks Canada's 147th birthday.  For this occasion, Historica Canada put out a quiz of 15 questions that every Canadian should be able to answer.  The survey covered everything from politics to geography with some social aspects thrown in.  I got 10 correct.

About 92% of the people surveyed said Canadians are polite (Isn't that a standard joke about us?);  86% agreed there is definitely a "Canadian identity" (Of course, eh?); and 89% are proud of their heritage (Agree to that!).  However, 44% of the respondents could not name 2017 as Canada's 150th anniversary and 11% could not identify the correct opening lines of the national anthem, "O Canada" (I DID get that right!)  To see the results, check here.

Have a wonderful July 1st.
