Yucky cellphones

Dear Diary:

I was reading the newspaper the other day when a headline caught my eye, concerning dirty cellphones.  Over 92% of the phones had some type of bacteria on them.  It also found that 16% of the same 390 cell phones tested, were found to carry E. coli.

I guess we always knew that computer lab key boards were a refrigerator full of germs but I never thought of my cell phone having bacteria on it.  I'm the only one who uses it BUT I do throw it in my purse, place it on a publc table, or even put in my pocket.  I wash my hands well but the article stated that wet hands can spread the bugs easier than with dry ones.  From now on I'll extra dry too.

So is there any other solution to keeping our cell phones clean?  I know you can swab keyboards with a cleaner.  Maybe we'll have to do that with our cell phones too.

Thinking about the summer

Dear Diary:

Ahhh...it is September 1st so I hauled out my thinking chair to go over the past few months of summer.  I know, I know, I know.  There are still many days of warm weather left but let's face it - the really hot days have already passed us by.

I had a wonderful summer.  I ride a bike (as in motorcycle) so when I managed to get some vacation, I went off into the country whenever I could.  There's something about getting away from the concrete and construction and going to fresh greeness and bright flowers.  I love "touching base with my roots" as they say.

I must admit, I like getting back to the fall - cool nights, warm days, routine.  There's something comfortable about that.  But my summer - yes, my summer - I do become a different person.

Amazing Apricot

Dear Diary:

I didn't know that apricots have to be picked when ripe and eaten fairly soon after that or they go bad. 

I didn't know you couldn't store them unless they were dried.

I didn't know that the Italian liqueur, Amaretto, gets its flavour from the kernel of the apricot and not almonds.  Go figure!

I'm just learning so much.

I Love Lemon

Dear Diary:

European Renaissance women often rubbed lemon juice on their lips to redden them.  Tried it.

The juice was also thought to whiten the skin.  Are you kidding???  I worked really hard to get this tan!!

I Love my coffee

Dear Diary:

I love a good cup of coffee - anytime - so while in my other world, I look for nice coffee shops where you can sit with friends and talk over a coffee or two.  One of the first places I looked for was a Canadian coffee shop that I frequent often and that is Tim Horton's.  The coffee is wonderful!  The doughnuts are scrumptious!  The atmosphere is friendly!  I go to this spot regularly and love it every time I go.  My friends and I sit and solve the problems of the day over a few cups.

I was waiting patiently for my friends but the smell of the coffee AND doughnuts was getting to me.  I just had to go in.

The selection of what to pick is just overwhelming.  It was really hard to make up my mind.  Sometimes I like the doughnuts...sometimes it's the muffins...or often it's the biscuits.  Then again, it could be a sandwich with soup!

The business is named after Tim Horton, a professional hockey player in the 60's. He  played for the Toronto Maple Leafs at one time and he started this very popular coffee place in 1964.  Check out his bio.

I grabbed my coffee and looked for a large table since I knew my friends would be here shortly.  Mmmm....hot coffee, strong and black!  What a way to spend the afternoon.
