Dear Diary:
Last September, I was lucky enough to be invited to an incredible art display by Mathilde Vhargon and this year, I was honoured to be invited again to her newest exhibit.
Being rather new to the art scene has not intimidated Mathilde at all. Her exhibit is a bold expression of her talent. When you walk in the door at Gallery Four, you are immediately surrounded by bright happy colours, ethereal and mystical illustrations.
The colours in most paintings are vibrant but are not overpowering.
While some are abstract in nature, there are two paintings that depict landscapes.
There are none of her sculptures or photographs in this exhibition but it's obvious her designs have taken a lot of time and care to produce. Each painting demonstrates her eye for detail.
I suggest you visit Gallery Four between now and May 15th to see Mathilde's exhibit. You can also see more of her work at Two Shores Gallery. It's an exciting show and it amazes me of all the talent we have in this world.
Good Night for now.

Breakfast in bed
Dear Diary:
Sometimes it's wonderful to participate in a little self indulgence once in awhile. This morning was one of those times that I did. Breakfast in bed is not my idea of a great start to the morning. I prefer to be up and running as soon as my eyes open but when the week has been abnormally busy and this Easter weekend seems to be a couple of days of cooking, cleaning, cooking and cleaning, I needed time to rejuvenate. So this morning I did it!
Coffee is the best first thing in the morning even when it's extra HOT!
And then what I enjoy most is getting caught up on my reading.
It didn't last long but it was SOOOO sweet when it was happening. It was awfully hard crawling out of this comfortable bed.
Happy Easter! I hope you all get a chance to rest and relax over this holiday.
Good Night for now.

Celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd
Dear Diary:
It's been 41 years since Earth Day was started to promote environmental issues. Close to 200 countries now participate in this event. We all should be aware of the environmental problems that we have and try to make a healthier world by making small changes in our lifestyles. Here are some fun facts from a past Earth Day but still relevant today.
And are you ready to create a healthier world this April? How will you do that? What will you give up?
I will try my best this year.
I will read a book, enjoy the sunlight, and watch the water on the lake. I plan on using less energy by unplugging my computer, turning off the television, not using my cell phone and taking the stairs at work. I'm going to eat a vegan diet since livestock contributes to the world's greenhouse gas emissions. I'm going to "declutter" my closet and not buy anything soon. I plan to "recycle, reduce and reuse" even more than I do now.
Wherever you live, Canada, or U.S.A., or Europe or Asia on Earth Day, let's try to make a small contribution to help our planet.
Good Night for now.

"Egg-xuberant" Eggplant
Dear Diary:
There's not much I can find that's redeeming about eggplant ...."egg-cept" the colour. I do like that. But I did find an "egg-cellent" recipe thanks to Bon Appetit It is a great appetizer with pita chips or raw veggies.
And that's about enough eggplant for me.
Good Night for now.

There's not much I can find that's redeeming about eggplant ...."egg-cept" the colour. I do like that. But I did find an "egg-cellent" recipe thanks to Bon Appetit It is a great appetizer with pita chips or raw veggies.
- 1 large eggplant (about 1 1/4 pounds)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1/2 cup drained canned garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons (generous) tahini (sesame seed paste)
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Cut eggplant in half lengthwise, then score flesh in crisscross pattern at 1-inch intervals, 1/2 inch deep. Rub cut sides with 1 1/2 tablespoons oil; sprinkle with salt. Place eggplant on rimmed baking sheet, cut side down; bake until tender, about 1 1/2 hours. Cool slightly, then scoop flesh into processor (discard skins). Add garbanzo beans, remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons oil, lemon juice, tahini, and garlic; puree until mixture is almost smooth. Transfer to bowl; stir in parsley. Season hummus to taste with salt and pepper.
And that's about enough eggplant for me.
Good Night for now.

Another Election in Canada
Dear Diary:
Ah yes! Canada is headed for another federal election in three weeks. This makes 4 elections in 7 years and I'm beginning to wonder why. Politics baffle me but I do know that the Conservatives (the party in power) fell to a vote of non-confidence on March 25 and that meant another election.
So the question is....who do I vote for?
There are more than 5 parties in Canada but often they have no people running. I know I can't vote for the Bloc since I don't live in Quebec. We don't elect the Prime Minister as they do the President of the U.S. I'm not a "party" person. I'm more of a "people" person so I probably will vote for the person who I think would be the best in Parliament. The topics that all candidates are discussing run from families, to health care, to the economy but no mention of environmental issues and Canada certainly is lacking in that department. So you can see my dilemna. ERRGGGHHH... Canadian politics can get confusing at times.
I guess within the 3 weeks left for me, I'll have to listen lots, read lots and think lots. I love the quote about voting credited to Al Capone: "Vote early and vote often"!
Oh yes...Dear Diary...the French debate, scheduled for tonight, was cancelled because the Habs are playing the Bruins...hockey precedes everything.
Good Night for now.

"Stalking the Wild Asparagus"
Dear Diary:
Ahhhh yes! The title is of a book that brings back childhood thoughts. My Grandmother was a vegan when it wasn't fashionable to be so. She relied on this book for many recipes, covering casseroles, muffins, jellies and even wine. It was written in the '70's by Euell Gibbons who was the first to put out a cookbook about edible wild plants, and was reprinted in the '90's. This colour challenge, difficult as it was to find that particular colour in my closet, brought back many gastronomical memories.
Here's my asparagus -ness!

Canada's Official Tartan
Dear Diary:
The Canadian government has designated the Maple Leaf tartan to be the national tartan and an official symbol of the nation.
The tartan was designed in 1964, the red, green and gold representing the shifting colours of autumn leaves. The tartan has been worn by Canadians for years as an "unofficial" symbol but now with raising it to "official", it will join the flag, the coat of arms and the beaver as emblems of Canada. I have a Scottish background and am very proud that we now have a tartan representing the contribution that our Scottish ancestors have given to our country.
I decided to visit a Canadian sim that represents my part of Canada, although I don't really live in wilderness. Naturally I dressed in a "plaid" dress.

I stood on the suspension bridge as it was swinging back and forth...my tummy was doing flip-flops.
It was great to make it across safely!
I'm so proud that Canada has made the Maple Leaf tartan part of the official emblems. I guess I'd better dig out my great grandfather's bag pipes.

Today is April 1st
Dear Diary:
Well I was sitting on this ladder for over an hour because my neighbour told me that the sea was rising and coming into our homes so I watched and waited...
...and then it hit me!! APRIL FOOLS' DAY!!
The history of this day is not clear. Most people think it started in France in the 16th century when the Gregorian Calendar was introduced. New Year's Day was moved from April to January. Those people who still celebrated the old way were labeled fools. A lot of jokes were played on these citizens.
Joke playing has gone on for many years right up to the present time. One of the funniest was done by the BBC, telling how a species of flying penguins had just been discovered.
It seems hard to believe that thousands of people who watched the news actually believed this but then again, it did look believable.
I guess today the joke's on me!
Good Night for now.
