The First Day Of Fall Arrives

Dear Diary:

The first day of fall starts today at 9:54pm.  Summer sure has left us in my part of the world, and its departure was fast.  This morning it was 0C when I got up.  A little too crisp for my taste.

But in my second world I can always find a place with plenty of sunshine.  I found one with the sun and a lot of fall foliage to enjoy.

The Countryside proved to be an ideal spot.  I found a field where the grasses have turned with fall.  As I walked through it, several deer were eating them up.  I loved the birch trees since those trees are what I have in my area.  Nice touch.

Why Does It Always Rain On The Weekends?

Dear Diary:

We've had great weather this past summer - hot days, cooler nigts and very little rain.  But it seems whenever I want to go to some interesting place, it begins to drizzle.  I wanted to visit Strawberry Island.  I heard it was a picturesque place showing a bit of fall colours.  So off I went last Saturday expecting the best but ran into the worst.  RAIN!

I was lucky to have my umbrella with me.

Strawberry Island is worth a visit but watch for personal homes.  There are signs posted signifying if a house is privately owned.

Did You Make Your Bed This Morning?

Dear Diary:

Yes, it's National Make Your Bed Day.  I'm sure most of us - ahem - do make our beds each morning but some statistics say that the majority of people do not make their bed every day.  This morning I was prompted to make my bed in both worlds.

It has been said that by making the bed after you get up, it gets you into an organizational mood so the rest of your day falls into place.  I don't really know about that but making the bed does make me feel better...like I've accomplished something even before I get to work.

If you make your bed each day, you run a better chance of having a good nights sleep.  A smooth bed helps cut down the tossing and turning when the covers just don't seem to be coming the right way.

Labour Day! Does It Mean Summer Is Over?

Dear Dairy:

People say that.  "Labour Day signals the end of summer."  Hmmm.  The way the temperature has been going in my part of the world, that phrase could be right.  There has definitely been a cooling off period.  However, I am hopeful that we will get a few more days of warm weather coming up.

In my second world, I'm guaranteed of good weather - most of the time.  So I called on Chloe to come with me while I toured a lovely area this Labour Day.  She's game for anything so we flew out to Whimberly, a gorgeous sim that shows fall at its best.

Later in the day, we flew out and had a great time exploring the various aspects of the sim.  A worthwhile trip for sure.  There was so much to see - paths to follow; residential establishments to peak into; and sitting areas to relax in.

As for me, back from vacation means laundry and clean-up.  A true "labour day" as far as I'm concerned.

Let's Use Up Those Vacation Days

Dear Diary:

When I returned from my mini vacation two weeks ago, I felt like I had had a perfect break.  I was surprised to learn I had more days for relaxing that I should use up soon.  I could agree to that completely!

I went out to find the nearest beach.

No travelling for me this summer.  I'm going to just sit, do some reading and enjoy the sun.

A Beautiful Day To Discover A New Artist

Dear Diary:

I was feeling a bit "antsy" the other day.  I had bought a new dress, along with a lot of things to go with it so I did want to go out and explore...but where to go was the problem for me.

I always love going to art galleries and see the newest offerings in paintings or learning about a new artist I hadn't been aware of before.  I discovered the Cafe des Arts where a painter I hadn't heard of, was displaying some of his works.  I was drawn to his paintings.

I found Giancarlo Petrini's art to be primal and primitive at the same time but definitely intriguing.  Here's what was written about him:

"His recent paintings are constructed with broken, ramshackle signs, without seduction, unbalanced" - writes Armando Ginesi in the travelling exhibition catalog from "L'Ombra del Moloch". "These are the signs of our time, of an era that has renounced the idea of ??perfection, of the One, of equilibrium, of absolute values, to throw itself headlong into the radicalism of imperfection, into the imbalance that has become an aesthetic sign, relativism shattered, because the dià-bàllo seems to have taken over the sün-bàllo (to unite, to unite), the value disvalue.Finally, one could say, because an aesthetic of the "ugly" prevailed, a sort of oxymoron, of logical contradiction of a historical period in which illogical things, absurd and "anti" attitudes seem to prevail, in which the struggle seems to have replaced the emotional union, in which the no must always and in any case prevail over the yes ".  (Armando Ginesi)

More Improvements In My House

Dear Diary:

As I talked about in my previous post, I've been trying to do a few (and relatively inexpensive) updates in my homes in both my lives.  Today I found a really cute coat rack item that fits perfectly by the door.

It's featured in this week's Hello Tuesday and is made by Newchurch.  The hall tree looks great in a hallway or in the foyer.  It's a super bargain as it comes in 4 versions for only 125L. You can add your own items in the bare version or use the added decor one.  It also comes in black with both renditions offered.  The cushion seat has different colour options with many poses available.  I thought it was a great deal.

Time To Update My House

Dear Diary:

When I got back from my mini vacation, I decided to do some updating on my house....maybe some new furniture, lighting or a splash of paint.  A quick fix was to change up some of the decorative things I had around my home.  

I found this table top aquarium that was hidden in the back of my junk room.  It was perfect on the coffee table but now I had to fill it.  That called for a trip to the store to find a suitable fish to add. 

I found a perfect little goldfish.

I like to have an aquarium in the house.  Watching the fish swim seems to have a calming effect.  Let's hope I can keep this fish alive!

Remembering Frida Kahlo

Dear Diary:

When I saw this dress, Frida Kahlo immediately came to mind.  Maybe it was because I had just seen an exhibit of her work; or maybe it was because this dress seemed to be her style.  This would be her 111th birthday and I thought it would a good time to credit her with many accomplishments.

Frida had many obstacles to overcome in her short life.  As a child, she had polio and even though she had a slight limp it didn't stop her from moving forward.  She excelled at school and was planning on going to medical school.  However, at 18, she was in a bus accident that gave her many medical problems filled with sever pain for the rest of her life.  While recovering, she took up art. She painted many self portraits, translating her pain and sadness on to canvas.  

Frida married Diego Rivera in 1929 but divorced in 1939 after a very tumultuous relationship. They married again in 1940 and divorced a second time in 1954.  It seemed for many years after she was still referred to as "Diego Rivera's wife" until her art was recognized by its own merit.

Her death at 47 years old came far too young.  Her poignant art brings people from all over to view her exhibitions.

I Have To Pick Up Flowers

Dear Diary:

I'm having friends for dinner and I like to have fresh flowers around the house.  My garden isn't showing a lot of signs of producing a bouquet or two so I had to run out to get some.

Tulips are hard to keep fresh for a long period of time but I'll get home and put them in a vase with some ice cubes and they should be great for tonight.

Old Things Appeal To Me

Dear Diary:

I like vintage items - clothing, furniture, decor - I like it all.  That's why I had to check in at the Vintage Fair where I managed to spend a few Lindens.  

The old fashion swimsuit caught my eye, for a variety of reasons.  I thought the styling was right on for the '20's and it brought to light a picture I have.  My Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather had a picture taken when they were in swimsuits on a beach in 1937  Except for the stripes, it looked exactly like the one I bought at the Fair.

What a great find!

A Fifty Linden Friday Moment

Dear Diary:

Everyone knows how much I like animal prints.  I have pillows, hats, purses, blankets and chair covers.  I also have a lot of animal print clothing so when I saw that Dead Dollz was offering a cute little dress for Fifty Linden Fridays  I just had to fly out and get it.

The store was packed when I got there.  But surprise...beyond surprise...who did I see when I landed was my BFF, Chloe.  I knew Chloe liked animal prints just as much as I did but I didn't expect her to be out shopping so early.

The dress comes with a HUD featuring 4 prints so Chloe and I decided to both wear the dress featuring our favourite animal print.  Of course we had to take a picture for our album.

Now I have to check with Chloe every time I want to wear this dress...just to make sure we're not on the same print.

This Could Be My Favourite Day Of The Year

Dear Diary:

Today is National Donut Day and it couldn't be a better day to celebrate.  I do love to have a nice sweet donut with coffee.  My favourite donut is a chocolate one with chocolate icing.  My mouth is watering as I'm typing.

I persuaded Chloe to come out to a local donut shop with me to look at all the inviting luscious donuts that were just calling our names.  I found the perfect one, all shiny and colourful.  I offered it to her but she seemed a bit skeptical, as if I would take a bite first.  Really!!  Would I??  Of course I would!!

She waited too long.  One bite did it for me.

Where Are You With Your Towel ?

Dear Diary:

It's that time of year again...May 25th...Towel Day!  Towel Day is in honour of Douglas Adams who wrote "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy".  In this book Adams introduces the towel with this explanation:

A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.  Partly it has great practical value.  You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a min-bogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you - daft as a brush, but very very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.

It's A BBQ Day

Dear Diary:

It's a beautiful day out today, with an expected temperature of 24C; it's a lazy day with not a lot of things to finish; AND it's a holiday!!  What more could you ask for?  It's Victoria Day here in Canada so we all can have a celebration.  For my family and I, it will be a BBQ with lots to eat, and later tonight we'll set off some fireworks.

I'll be standing over a hot BBQ for a long time but it's worth every minute.  Everyone will fill their bellies with food and drinks and then sit back in the dark to watch the fireworks display.

Have a fun filled Victoria Day...tomorrow it will be back to the old grind!!

A Themed Wedding For The Spring

Dear Diary:

A lot of couples like to have a themed wedding so when I took a run out to The Trunk Show, I decided to look for that type of dress.  I found a lovely one.

The simplicity of the gown signifies the medieval look.  The brocaded skirt is done very well with hints of sparkly threads throughout.   

In medieval times, the bride's dress was usually a jewel colour but I chose white.  The medieval bride usually had an arranged marriage that was forced out of necessity, not love.  She didn't carry a bouquet, although petals would be scattered on the floor and flowers placed around the chapel.  A wedding cake was also not available.  The couple and guests ate a basic wheat bread to celebrate.

April Showers Bring May....Snow??

Dear Diary:

I know!!  Snow is supposed to be done and gone in my part of the world but when I looked at the weather this morning it said "potential" snow shower coming May 1.  At least in my second world I know I can avoid any bad weather I want.  At least I think I can.

I found a great sim to visit so I called up Sam to see if he wanted to explore with me.  He was pumped to go.

Towards late afternoon, we ran into a bit of rain ourselves.  Sam had his umbrella so a few drops didn't hurt us.

I do enjoy a rainy day in the spring.  Everything gets cleaned up and the tulips start to appear.  I'm trying to be positive about the upcoming snow so maybe it just won't happen.
