 Dear Diary:

The one thing I've found about this pandemic is that I've saved a ton of money on cosmetics.  Like...who wants to put on the whole preparation, walk out of the house and have to cover everything up with a mask?  Then when you have to remove your face covering, all of your makeup is inside the mask, especially lipstick.  But I get tired of looking like a pasty version of myself so I decided I would still put on makeup every day, even if I was staying at home.

I must admit it did feel good when I looked in the mirror - not a better me - a more colourful me.

Winter Is Here For Awhile

Dear Diary:

The cold weather hasn't left my part of the world.  Layers of sweaters, scarves and gloves seem to be my every-day-attire!  I don't mind the chill of winter if I'm dressed appropriately and the humidity isn't high enough to bring the extreme frozen feel into my body.  So dressed in the correct way, visiting a warmer snowy location in my second life seemed to be a good spot to be in.

Winterland is a great place to visit.  There are lots of surprises to see while walking down paths and there's even a train station with a train ready for a ride.  Take a trip out to this picturesque location.

Lockdown is still on so no going out for a nice dinner but I did buy myself cookies and candy at the store so I'm set for a great day.

Up!! Up And Away!

 Dear Diary:

After my last post on my inability to get moving, I decided a change of scenery might just be what I needed.  When I looked through the list of destinations, the Lavender Lake Balloon Ride really appealed to me.

In my first life, I had been up in a hot air balloon a few years back.  It was exciting and scary both at the same time.  Of course the view was breathtaking and I totally enjoyed my trip so of course I wanted to try it in my second life.

Funny how I felt the same apprehension but...

once up in the air it was magical!

I Need To Get Motivated

 Dear Diary:

Is it me or is it just the time of year?  January always was a very long month for me - cold snowy weather; out to work in the dark and home in the dark; and, cleaning up all the left over Christmas items.  But none of those were the reasons this year in either of my lives.  We've had a mild winter and the Christmas things went away early and quickly.  So what is it?  I don't seem to want to do anything anywhere.

First I'm going to get a better attitude.  Next get dressed into some proper clothes.  Maybe even shop for something new.  Spending money usually perks me up.  Then I guess I'd better clean my kitchen.  Hopefully I'll be on a new track.  I did say hopefully...

Thinking About New Year's Resolutions

 Dear Diary:

I don't make New Year's Resolutions.  I don't make them because I don't keep them.  Over the years I've tried to follow along when friends are espousing theirs but it's futile for me.  As soon as it comes out of my mouth I know it won't work.

A lot of subjects that people choose for their intent are impossible to fulfil.  Others are personal thoughts and they can be easy to abandon.  But when I saw this T-shirt, I had to have it.  It says it all.

If you made resolutions this year, I hope you can manage to keep them.  As for me, I'll struggle along with my.."if only I could".

Getting The Wrapping Done

 Dear Diary:

I like it when I get to this point of my pre-Christmas Day schedule.  Presents are all ready; wrapping paper is to be unrolled; and bows and ribbons are poised to be put on packages.  Yes, that's on the schedule.  Now it just has to get done!

Starting The Christmas Decorations

In both my worlds, I like to decorate my house early in December.  It puts me in the Christmas spirit and (especially this year) brightens everything up. 

I struggled with the garland around my fireplace.  Getting it to hang just right always is an effort.

It's different this year when planning out the Christmas gifts.  Many stores in my first world have closed while others have been sold out of items for a long time.  I've been trying to do a lot of online shopping but even that brings on anxiety with the slow shipping times.  Even in my second life I've been checking items available online.

Movember Is Here

 Dear Diary:

The celebration of Movember is an annual event thrown out to men to grow the best moustaches they can during the month of November.  This is to raise awareness of some health issues involving men, especially prostate cancer, testicular cancer amd mental health. 

I got my two friends, Quincy and Sam, in my second world to participate.  Each are growing their moustaches in a different way.

Of course I had to get in there too. 

In our second life, you can join Movember Month in Second Life. You can donate your lindens through this group. Or you may want to donate through the cancer centre in your local area.  You can check here for a Canadian link.  This is a great way to help the men in our lives.

 Dear Diary:

I think I've said this every year - I'm really not into Hallowe'en.  I do decorate but not with much enthusiasm.  I buy candy for the kids but I eat a lot of it.  The one thing I really do like is watching the little ones come to the door in their costumes.  They shout out, "Trick or treat!" with such eagerness.

I'll be handing out the treats again this year...and of course eating a few too.

The Beautiful Colours Of Fall

 Dear Diary:

I did have gorgeous colours surrounding me up until a week ago.  Then it seemed a lot of heavy wind and rain moved in.  Unfortunately that took away many leaves.  I missed it so I decided to find a spot in my second life that could reflect the brilliant colours of Autumn (before I see all white when I look out my window).

I found a perfect spot at Breath of Nature.  It had the birch trees that I love and the fiery red maples.  It was a wonderful afternoon.

October Is Roller Skating Month

 Dear Diary:

I started rolling skating when I was a kid.  No fancy boots at that time, just a cheap pair of metal screw-on skates.  But I loved putting them on and whizzing down the sidewalk with my friends.  After a few scrapes and bruises, I learned to maneuver the cracks and bumps that I encountered on my way down the hill.  As I got older, I progressed to the rink type of roller skating with real fancy boots.  It was fun skating to the music so I went in search of a good roller rink in my second world.

I wasn't disappointed.  I found a great place - music, flashing lights and interesting fellow skaters.

Happy Thanksgiving Canada 2020

 Dear Diary:

Thanksgiving will be different this year.  I usually have an assortment of family, friends and extras but with the way things are , I'm limiting it to family. It's sad in a way but we still will have a great time.

The menu has the usual fare with turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, and turnip to start with and finishing with pumpkin pie and LOTS of whipped cream.  It will be a good day.

A Celebration Of Teachers

 Dear Diary:

Today is World Teachers'  Day.  I taught in the elementary system and at the College level so I understand how much work teachers have to do before, during and after each class.  At this time, it's very difficult for teachers to be in the classroom or to be trying to teach online.  It often requires a learning experience for them also.

My support and gratitude go out to these men and women who work so hard to educate our children.
