Earth Day 2018

Dear Diary:

On Earth Day 2018, there is a big campaign to end plastic pollution.  Plastic items are everywhere in our life and have become an easy solution to storage, protection and hygiene.  Plastic is in hundreds of items from baby products to food containers.  And of course, we are often given plastic bags when we go to the grocery store.  But that's starting to come to an end.

More stores are going back to paper bags.  Those certainly don't last for years in landfill sites.  Many grocery stores in my community have offered sturdy cloth bags that can be used and washed.  I like this idea and only wish that it were more widespread.

Now I would like it if they could find an alternative to the plastic garbage bags.  I do recycle and compost but some things still need to go in the garbage.

Today is a good day to start refusing to accept plastic and asking for paper.

Good Night for now.
